How much would you pay for a custom case?

Simple enough.

Toss the crappy plastic case, implant the electronics and some quality gimbals.
How much would you pay for something like that?

I think 25 bucks is still expensive for a case.. You could always produce it bulk in China.. :D

Maybe I really don't know how to evaluate how much things worth, but I'm in dire straits and I couldn't pay $25 for a case..

or maybe I'm missing the point here and you mean a custom case only for myself?? well that would cost a lot of money..

The question is, if someone made a custom case for the electronics (be it er9x or ersky) what would be a reasonable price.

The question is fraught with pitfalls. Like, what would be the quality? What would be the shape? Materials?
Some would want a high quality case and are willing to pay a lot and some want the cheapest thing available.

Though, you really can't beat the 9x case when it comes to value for money. I guess that a custom case would appeal to those who are willing to pay more.

I understand, but imagine that the ersky9x board evolves to a touch screen LCD for example, or for a bigger one.. we will need a new case.. if you buy new gimbals (good ones), pots and switches for example, it will probably end up as or more expensive than the other open source project, the OSRC.. I'm talking about the basic version of course..

the board shipped to Europe might cost already over $100, I'm guessing.. not mentioning more 19% (in Germany, Portugal is 23%) of the total cost if the customs put their hands on it..

Like I said, a custom case will probably appeal to the "Bling" crowd.

Still, there are ways of making it less expensive than what those guys are asking for.

Or like in Sweden 25% if the customs lay their long greedy hands on it....

I personally would not mind £50 or so.

Yes... Pricy... But hardly a volume product :)

I had dreamt about a Carbon fiber case. Read up on simple vacuum bag molding. Then Never got my head round how one would make the threaded holes to attach the various assemblies to the case. Of course I'm big on thinking and small on execution. If only we didnt have to work for a living + work overtime to buy toys.

You said it....

Making standofs is actually very easy. Basically you need to create the standoffs out of plastic and glue them on the case.

Meantime... Found a $45 case that looks about right:

I'd pay $100 (including shipping to the UK) for a case with a large screen at the top and good ergonomics- For a tx that feels immediately natural in the hands the Hitec Aurora 9 is a perfect example.

Having given this some thought. I wouldn't spend out on a case for the 9x unless it had sliders instead of pots. Having said that. If I was (which I might be in the future) to buy a ersky9x board, things would take on a different perspective. The ersky9x from what I see is in neeed of extra cut outs and holes for serial ports, earphones, SD slot and so on. To me it would be worth around $50-70 to have a case with the extra holes in them and say another $30 if it came with the additional electronic items.

Here is a set of pics of the Pac-tec model PT-8 case with a FlySky for comparison. They were kind enough to sample me one for the freight cost. These would end up at about $25US, I think. They can mill the front panels if we settle on a design, or just go DIY.
They can be found at http://www.pactecenclosures.com/ There is quite a variety and the quality is good. Also available in black.
