XJT Telemetry Module connection to Sky9x Rev3 Board

Post by bob195558 »

:?:

In the photograph, is the cable wiring correct ? :?:

I see the Red wire from the Sky9x Board's TXD connection going to the GND (Ground) of the XJT Telemetry Transmitter.
It dose not look right to me. :?:

And I see the Black wire from Sky9x Rev3 Board's GD connection is connecting to the + 5V of the XJT Telemetry Transmitter.
This also dose not look right to me. :?:

The White wire from the Sky9x Board's RXD connection is connecting to the Rxd of the XJT Telemetry Transmitter.
I am not sure this is correct too. :?:
I have not powered these devices up, because when plugging the black four pin plug into the FrSky XJT Module, <br />I saw the black wire going to the + 5V and the red wire going to the ground connection of the XJT Telemetry Module.

I'd expect:
XJT SKY
RXD TXD
TXD RXD
GND GND

I haven't tried this as I have the internal wiring for the (modified) DJT module using pin 5 of the module connector available and this connects directly to the internal SPort data signal of the XJT. Then, of course, I'm running the latest code that supports the XJT with PXX and SPort!

The color of the wires is not important

The 4 pin connector is upside down on your RF module , the two wires beside each other go to the RXD,TXD connections,
The one separated by the open pin (white) is the Ground , and should be at the bottom

I still think there is a problem when I turned the 4 pin connector plug around.

It makes the:

Red wire from the Sky9x Board's TXD connection to the Rxd pin of the XJT Telemetry Transmitter.
This looks good! (Sky9x: TXD to Rxd of the Telemetry Module XJT)

But the Black wire from Sky9x Rev3 Board's GND is connect to the Txd pin of the XJT Telemetry Transmitter.
I think this looks incorrect!
Shouldn't this GND be connected to the GND of the Telemetry Module XJT?
(Like: Sky9x GND to GND of the Telemetry Module XJT)

And the White wire from the Sky9x Board's RXD is connected to the GND pin of the XJT Telemetry Transmitter.
I think this looks incorrect also!
Shouldn't this pin be connected to the Txd of the Telemetry Module XJT?
(Sky9x RXD to Txd of the Telemetry Module XJT)

 Should I switch the Black wire with the White wire on the Three Pin Sky9x Plug?
This would make the connections like Mike has shown them.
XJT / Sky9x
RXD to TXD
TXD to RXD
GND to GND

:?: Is this what I should do?

Bob...

Yes, you should make the wiring as Mike as suggested.
It might be easier to change the white and black wires at the four pin end, but either end would do.

It would be nice to modify the XJT module internally to get the data through (Mike?) :)

No need. The XJT already sends SPort data through on pin 5. If you have already wired pin 5 for a modified DJT then the XJT just plugs in and works, as long as you load a recent revision of ersky9x that has PXX and SPort support. I've been running this OK.

:D
Hi Mike,
Thank you for your helping, I have only recently been changing over to the FrSky Transmitters
and have not studied on the pin 5 modification yet.
I want use the S-Port, so I need to know more about how to make mods.
The XJT has an external S-Port plug using the servo plug.
Can this be used in place doing the pin 5 mod? I think this is what Clivew was referring to.

:D Colin... thank you for verifying the wiring changes.

Because I had the 4 pin connector plug upside down on my XJT module,
I have super glued a piece of Round wooden Tooth-Pick to the upper end of the
4 pin connector plug, so that I will never be able to plug this in upside down again.

I also, with my 5 pin 9x TelemetrEZ board plug, I cut a small strip plastic at an angle so it would wedge into the upper pin hole,
so to block it, again so that I will not be able to plug this plug in upside down.

:D
This is how I have it now, Looks Good!

All you need for the SPort from the XJT to a SKY board is a wire from pin 5, on the back board, the the RX data pin of the serial connector. No track cuts.

Installed latest R180, and the telemetry now works, thanks Mike!
Not sure how to reset the altitude (X8R+frsy high precision vario)?
And why does it tell me to update the co-processor every time I
switch the transmitter on? I have 0104 co-pro, is there a later one?
Thanks!

Latest co-processor is 06. It is on the google code page under TinyApp. Ask if you need any help getting this flashed.

On the telemetry page showing ALT and T1 etc. just press EXIT LONG to zero the altitude value.

Thanks Mike, all sorted, except for the vario reading about 10% both in metric and imperial of what it should be,
maybe I have one of those faulty ones?
Only other minor detail, the beeper changes to "warbley" when in pxx mode :)

I'll check out the vario. Just so many different things to test. My only high precision, Sport compatible vario is in a plane, but with a D8R-II controlled from a Taranis in D8 mode!

What exactly do you mean about the beeper, and is this the actual beeper rather than the speaker used for voice?

It's not the vario Mike, it's fine in Taranis.
The warbley sound only happens with PiSpkVoice (the only setting the haptic works on!)
and ONLY when pxx is selected.
Have a nice Sunday anyway

Looks like I had a /100 where I should have a /10.
Should be fixed in the next revision.

Perfick!
The bleeper issue doesn't matter to me, I just thought it might be indicative of something else going on.

Hi Mike,
In this photo dose this white wire for the S-Port connection, show what you were saying for the
Pin 5 of the 9x back-board, connect to the Sky9x board serial connector?
I plugged into the COM2, J21, 1, RXD-IND of the Sky9x board to the bottom Pin 5 of the 9x back-board.
Is this the correct way to connect the Pin 5 mod for the S-Port? :?:

Wiring looks correct.
As the firmware is still developing for this only COM1 will support the SPort in released revisions. COM2 should support it in the next revision.
I have to change the baud rate and I have only put the code in for COM1 so far to get it working at all.

Thank You Mike!

I have the original erSky9x firmware on my Sky9x Radio and I believe I can use eepskye.exe to update to the newest revision erSky9x firmware.

I could before I Close up the Sky9x Radio, is to tap into the other COM1, J10, 1, RXD-IND wire.
Is it OK for me to Tap into the same Sky9x board's COM1, J10, 1, RXD-IND connection with both the Pin 5 of the back board and the TXD of the XJT telemetry module?

Since the SPort is a single wire bus, I would expect them to be the same physical signal, but I haven't checked. Would be worth a continuity check on the XJT.
