Powering on the transmitter while USB is connected

Post by farshield »

For the transmitters that support USB charging, you can't power them on while USB is connected.

Since I'm planning to use the controller only for simulators, it's a bit annoying having to plug out and plug back in the USB cable every time I want to power on the device.

Is this a hardware limitation? Can I get through this limitation by modifying the firmware? If not, what hardware modifications would be required and what are the trade-offs.

Thank you for your time :)

The hardware is designed so that when the USB is plugged with power off the controller boots in DFU/firmware flashing mode.

Is it not possible to make a simulator module and just turn the power to the RF module OFF?

Yeah but you wouldn't get the advantages of USB (faster refresh, more channels, no extra interface needed) then...

That won't change the fact that the radio can't turn on if the USB cable is plugged in. I guess you could just never turn it off...

Too bad it's not possible, I'll just keep it powered on for now. This model I currently use (Radiomaster T8) doesn't vibrate when inactive so it's less annoying.

You can set the inactivity timeout to 0 to disable it.
