9XR Pro dead :(

Post by rsilk49 »

I suspect that I have killed my radio when trying to check the voltages on the pins in the module bay. Maybe I inadvertently shorted something...

Now when I switch on, the screen remains blank

What is the best way to determine how bad it may be before I have to scrap it?

Measure R9 on the RF module board, inside the radio of course, not inside the RF module :) it should read around zero Ohms, just like a short.. R9 is a current sensor, and normally is the first to blow if you short something.

Is that the resistor immediately to the left of the "h" of hexTronik?
What range should I use on the multimeter, 20k?

I have blown r9 and it does shut your radio off.. Go to the schematic under the 9xr pro tab in this forum..r9 will be below the E on the Hextronic label..You can just soldier a jumper wire across this to get your radio working .

As I said, if R9 is good, it should measure nearly zero ohms, so use the lower scale on your multimeter.. Ahh and MEASURE WITH THE RADIO TURNED OFF, otherwise you can destroy your multimeter.

Trying to get access to the front side of the rf module board to inspect R9. I have removed the back cover of the radio and undone the 3 screws securing the board, but it looks like there are multiple wire harnesses attached to the board which are stopping it coming out.
What is the correct way to release it? Do I need to go in via the front cover?

can't you just unplug the connectors?

All the connectors are out of sight, on the back side (where R9 is). The wiring harnesses seem short and I am concerned that if I just pull the board hard I may damage something.
Do you release the board via the front of the radio?

Fitting the Taranis gimbals was easier than this :)

See this video.. At around 15 minutes he shows the other side of the RF board. You must disconnect the connectors to remove it from the radio.

Unfortunately, he doesn't show the disassembly of the radio -- just a large collection of all the individual parts he removed from the case :)

Yes, but now we know that all connectors can be pulled out :) ;)

If you have not done it yet ..Just unplug them, they wont get mixed up..They really only fit one way..I felt the same way but after I did it it was a piece of cake going back together..I even went back in and took my jumpers off and soldered the correct resistor back in..Thanks to these guys helping me along the way , I now have BT and rotary encoder ..

Fixed! Removed the burnt out resistor too..
Managed to unplug/plug in the various connectors using some thin nosed pliers.
It would have been a lot better if the wires were a little longer and not zip tied together.
