Post by stotty1111 » Sat Aug 01, 2020 10:16 am

Ok now acquired one of the above, I have searched on here for info of how to flash it etc with Flysky/Turnigy firmware, I think I need to use multiprotocol etc, anyone point me in the right direction or give me simple instructions please?

It should have perfectly useable firmware on it already. You only need to flash the module if you need a recently added protocol or other feature.

To use it, just select the protocol "MULTI", then the required sub-protocol.

It is not possible to flash the module from a standard 9X (AVR processor '64/ '128/ '2561), but I think all ARM based radios support flashing from a file on the SD card, provided the module is shipped with the correct bootloader. Does your module have a USB socket on it?

We need a bit more information on what you actually tried.
If you have the module outside the radio and you plug in the USB to your computer, do you get a USB device found, and if so, what device do you see?

Ok, trying to use the unit in a 9XR, flashed with ER9X and V2 std 8 chan flysky et al receiver
New model slected in 9XR model setup, protocol, loaded Flysky and second flysky tried all the options would not bind.
Just tried usb with the unit as stand alone. not recognised in USB listings also tried in 9XR off and on, same result, not detected.
Again where would I find manual etc? non came with the piece!

Do you get the "USb Connected" tones from your computer when you connect the USB cable?
Do you ever get either LED lighting up?

There is no manual as such. The product is just a version of the DIY project, see here:
https://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthr ... -TX-Module

The firmware for the module is here, together with a lot of documentation:
https://github.com/pascallanger/DIY-Mul ... -TX-Module

In the tx , get solid green and rapid flash red which drops to about 1/2 original rate.
When out of tx and connected just get green solid --- hsve also tried several usb leads all to no avail!

I assume that out of the Tx you don't get the "USB device connected" tones then.

Try setting the protocol to PPM, then power cycle the radio and see if the red LED then comes on solid.

Ok, with another laptop I get the connecting sound, and having changed the protocol to ppm yes, the red and green leds are solid

OK, to get the module to respond to the "real" multi protocol, the rotary switch needs to be set at "0". It can be quite difficult to tell which end of the "slot" is pointing at 0 (instead of 8). Make sure the slot is lined up with 0 (and 8), and look very closely at the rotary switch to see if there is a mark at one end of the slot, showing where it is pointing. After changing the switch, set the protocol to "Multi", then power cycle the radio and see if the red LED is now on solidly. If not, try the switch with the slot rotated 180 degrees and power cycle the radio to test again.

I take that to mean you have MULTI protocol selected and the red LED is now on solid.

So is your receiver the original Flysky RX Model No:FS-R8B AFHDS?
If so you should be able to use the Flysky protocol, sub-protocol 0, put the Rx into bind mode, then just select BIND on the Tx.

Looks like it is called the "Type" (next line after "Protocol" where you have "Flysky").
Sub-protocol 0 will appear as "Flysky", but may then change to "Std" if you have the telemetry mod done on the radio and the module has a sufficiently recent firmware on it!

ok, tried that, both booting the rx before and after booting the tx, both give rapid flashesas per bind, but they do not.

That should work. I think you may need to ask on the RCGroups thread to which I linked above.

Ok, sorted, silly me made the assumption I had to use the Bind button on the module and not that one on the Protocols page!
Think I need a pair of Boxing gloves to stop me playing around with this stuff!!!!! ;-D)

I didn't make that as clear s I might have when I said above "just select BIND on the Tx".

When the rotary switch is in the 0 position, the "bind" button forces the module to stay in its bootloader when held pressed at power on.

Another question to clarify in my mind, the protocols are stored in the Tx hardware or in the tx module hardware?

All the protocol code is in the module, the Tx itself only keeps track of the protocol to use for any given model.

Thanks Mike, its Strangeas I have an Orangerx DSM2/DSMX dedicated for an XR2Pro, In protocos all options listed, but in Multi and Flysky x2 the unit will not bind, told by Hobbyking the module is only DSM2/DSMX, so why list all rhe rest?

Because the radio doesn't know what protocols the module supports, it lists everything a multiprotocol module can be capable regardless of whether the module in the slot is built with support for it.
