Configuring S8R quandry

Post by Berkie »

Hi all.
I am trying to configure an FrSky S8R with the STK tool.
I have downloaded from FrSky the driver CP210xVCPInstaller_x64.exe for the STK which I obtained from here https://www.frsky-rc.com/stk/

This https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSfM_GSRFh4 at 0.57 shows I should have the S8R exe. but my problem is I cant find where to get that

Can anyone be of help please?

It's now been incorporated into the "FreeLink" application.

I followed the link from the S8R receiver downloads and got this file:
FreeLink20190830.zip
which opens without any problem.
What link did you follow?

Yes same one - I've downloaded it multiple times trying to get it to run.
It loads in firstly to a WinRAR, an unzip app, then I unzip it and save it . Perhaps it's the WinRAR that is causing the problem?

OK, so I have deleted WinRar, downloaded FreeLink20190830, but it doesn't come in as a zip file. Just goes straight to the HD, but still cant be opened

It's a rar file so Windows won't open it natively. Install 7-zip.

The thing seems to be a bit crappy.

Needs to be run in compatibility mode (Win XP service pack 3) under Win 7 and Win !0 here.

Thanks Kilrah (you're always there mate). I've installed 7zip but now i get this Unable to locate application file 'Free Link.msi'.

See the setup log file located at 'C:\Users\Kev\AppData\Local\Temp\VSD8BD8.tmp\install.log' for more information.

But cant get more info because AppData\Local\Temp\VSD8BD8.tmp\install.log' is not in C:\Users\Kev\

Berkie, it took me around one hour, to get it running here.

Which Windows do you have? 7 or 10? 32 or 64 bit?

Did you pick the right package X64 or X86, X64 is for 64bit and X86 for 32bit ....

Loaded and unpacked 'FreeLink_v3.3_20191010.rar'

Have a 64 bit Win 7 here

Image

so I choose X64 and clicked Free Link.msi

Creates this icon on desktop

Image

Clicking that icon ...

Image

Not working.

So I start the compatibility mode ... (XP service pack 3)

Image

First, there is an icon in the taskbar requesting confirmation, then there is a small window 'no device available' (did not connect my STK stick) and finally the program shows up.
