Difference between between FAI Choice and FAI Mode?

I noticed there are two new choices when downloading updated Taranis firmware, "FAI Choice" and "FAI Mode". Also noted there can only be one checked at a time. Please explain the difference between the two choices.

BTW, FAI telemetry choices available on the Taranis are very important for those of us who complete. Kudos to the developers who made them available to us.

FAI mode: Telemetry is disabled.
FAI choice: Telemetry is enabled until you go into the radio settings and disable it. Once done, it can't be re-enabled on the radio itself, you have to connect it to the PC. I.e you could be using your radio for training with telemetry, then disable it when arriving for the contest without needing a PC.

FAI MODE also disable Vario. (As vario can be feed also by A1/A2 ports)

Just to add in FAI mode telemetry is not completely disabled you still have available (as per FAI rules) RSSI and A1/A2 (which normally are devoted to model batteries)

I just loaded r2667 onto my Taranis with FAI Choice checked in Preferences. This was the first version that I loaded that had FAI Choice as an option when I downloaded the new firmware to C9x. I had FAI mode engaged before in the previous version of the firmware I had loaded on my Taranis. The FAI option does not show in the Radio Setup screen of my Taranis with r2667. I made sure that the FAI option was not checked in C9x, and uploaded the eeprom file to my Taranis to see if that would enable FAI choice. FAI mode still does not show up on my Taranis. It shows in the simulator screen in C9x and is not ticked. How do I get FAI mode selection back on my Taranis? Once I get it to show up on my Taranis and I go to a contest have to turn on FAI mode on my Taranis, how do I reenable FAI choice from my computer?

Do not consider c9x simulator: it does not actually runs the firmware you have downloaded but a static compiled version.

First in general menu FAI choice must be present other way it means you have not downloaded the proper firmware.

If you enable FAI Mode on the radio to disable you must edit the relevant option in General Settings

Enabling (checking) the checkbox disable telemetry, clearing it enables again full telemetry support

EDIT: Just downloaded it again, and flashed it to my Taranis. FAI mode still does not show up on the Radio Setup screen. It is also unchecked in C9x, per your screenshot.

EDIT2: I also tried downloaded a version of firmware with FAI mode set, then overwrote it with FAI Choice. Still doesn't appear on the screen.

That may be it. I just downloaded thru C9x a no options version of r2667, made sure it worked, and then overwrote it with the FAI choice firmware along with a completely clean eeprom. FAI mode still doesn't show up on the Taranis. I will write a Issue on this.

I've now reloaded original Taranis firmware, deleted the taranis.bin file from the SD card and let it self regenerate, reloaded 2667 with the FAI choice option selected, and nothing gives me anything about FAI on the Radio Setup screen. I had it at one time, but I cannot get it back. I've tried uploading completely clean eeprom files from C9x, and that doesn't work.

Where is FAI choice stored? In the EEPROM? If it is in the EEPROM, I'd think deleting Taranis.bin would fix the problem. Or is it in the battery backed up settings on the motherboard? It acts like a bit has been set somewhere, and I can't unset it.

A typo in the script: CHIOCE instead of CHOICE as parameter
but that's me, a little bit dyslexic

I also tried setting it on the Taranis, got blocked from changing it, then read the eeprom to C9x, reset it, and reuploaded the eeprom. Worked fine.

Does FAI mode disable telemetry altogether (apart from rssi & Rx batt), or does it just not allow the data to be shown on screen? IE. Can telemetry still be used as input in logical switches during FAI mode?

No, such switch will always be at logical zero (FALSE).

You know, the options wouldn't show on screen but still take control of the model..
