irfanview I only use to do the final conversion to 8 bit. I use paint.net to create the image first in gray scale and 16X32.

get an image
create a second layer
make the second layer behind the first one
make the second layer all white
start cutting out the background of the plane (this is the time consuming part)
convert to gray scale (I do this while it is still large)
only mess with the layer of the plane (not the white background)
start playing with the contrast and brightness, it depends on what colors the plane is as to what will look the best.
this will leave the background white.
then merge the layers
crop and resize to get get to the proper image size
save then use irfanview to convert to 8 bit

Alex
Your English beats my German...do not sweat the small stuff.

It would be much easier if you could take a picture against a very simple background for someone to make it into a .BMP for Taranis. A uniform color...not patterns in the background. Also a background color that does NOT match the colors of the object. the displayed .BMP must be 16 grey shades. A simple colored sheet or blanket would work well Most detail will be lost. The Taranis .BMP must be only 32 x 64 pixels when displayed on the tx.. The aspect ratio of the ship or boat should be roughly 2 times as wide as it high. The picture you posted has a good aspect ratio, but a very hard background to get rid of.

yeah, something with a more solid background, that background would be very difficult to get rid of.

You need to download the .zip file and the .bmp you need for the Taranis is in that file.

Is there somebody out there who has a nice BMP for the Taranis for my new BAE Hawk (Red Arrows aircraft) EDF? Would be nice to have a picture with this aircraft in my transmitter.
Thanks

Has anyone done a FliteTest model pack yet? Just realized I need to get my FT-Viggen and FT-Spitfire moved over to my Taranis ;-)

There is already a spitfire in the archives on first post - not Flite Test, but at 32 pixels by 64 who knows the difference.

Here is a Viggen.

Model Artwork for Taranis

Post by bobnj »

On page 10 of this thread G550TED posted the instruction listed below.
I'm hoping he's still around to help me with the set switch to "ONE" statement.
I can't figure that out.
ABBC3_OFFTOPIC
Set a Custom Function and make it the first "Play Track" CF that you program.
Set switch to "ONE", function as "Play Track", param to "modelname.wav", and "No Repeat"
Thanks

You can also use "ON". Once OpenTX 2.0 is onboard "one" will be gone so you'll use "on".
But what's really sweet is you'll be able to have a sound play every time it's triggered EXCEPT on startup.

Thanks Scott
I don't want to be accused of hijacking the thread, and I mentioned that I'd start a separate one,
but isn't the intent to play the "modelname" AT startup?

Yep. On (or one) works great for that. However you don't also want to necessarily hear "Ailerons on high, Elevator on Medium, 12.4 volts, Rudder on High, Throttle is engaged", etc etc for all of the other functions you have sounds set up on and really only want to report once you're flying.

The link does not work, but I tried to decipher the intent of the link and came up with the following.

I selected the red and touched up to include the black and white markings in the wings... then deleted everything else leaving the "white" background. Selecting the background was impossible as it was a gradient.
