Awesome work! The most clear and concise instructions for an open source radio to date. :-)

A thought. You have covered all of the basics but many of us will need more information to be able to use some of the features such as GVs, flight phases (or modes), custom switches and so forth. It may, therefore, be a good thing to add appendices or whatever for more detailed explanations, instructions and examples for those features. That would also make updating the more involved programming features easier in the future when the FW is changed/updated.

Thank you,

Ted

Hi Kilrah,
first off, many thanks for the manual, it is very useful even for us with the good old TH9, especially the "Model Setup" chapter.
Just a small suggestion; when feasible, would be very useful to add in the Servos section the following diagram

https://open9x.googlecode.com/svn/wiki/ ... ubtrim.png

that explains in a very clear way the text.

Thanks, yes the symlimits diagram certainly has its place in somewhere.

For now I tried to spend the available time I had to cover the basics so that potential future users would understand that it isn't all that complicated after all, as opposed to what they may have been reading. That should keep them interested. We'll still have time to add the advanced concepts :)

That always was the problem - we had docs that that described the parameters, then docs that explained you how to set up a complex 16-servo glider with all the bells and whistles... but nothing that explained the basic idea of how to just get a servo to move with the desired control. I'm exaggerating a bit of course, but you get the idea. 10% of people will set up an advanced glider. 95% will set up a 4CH model with flaps and retracts. And while the advanced glider covers everything it does so "indirectly", and people who don't have the basics right won't be able to differentiate what is what in a huge pile of mixers.

I would suggest that we try get this all into the wiki at some point?

Although....

I gave been toying with the idea of building a multi lingual manual builder for the firmwares.

A simple web / wiki type to, but suited to our needs.

wow, can't believe I missed this thread completely. Looks like it will be my next tx.
can some one explain a little on the heli setup page:
collective direction, long cyclic direction, lateral cyclic direction...., .... those are kind of new to me. are those in current Open9X?

does it play background music now? ;)

they should include a Lipo or LiFe pack instead of NiMH battery. ;)

Much of this is already in the sky9x board. :-)

Yup, always been on all boards. They simply reverse the direction of the associated controls.

Background music has been on sky9x for 9 months or so.

In terms of battery - shipping devices with unprotected lipos is a pain now, costs a lot more and is restricted in some places like the USA. NiMH also allows supplying a simple, cheap wall-wart charger instead of requiring the user to supply an advanced charger, take the battery out to charge it,...
If you want to put a lipo you can do it yourself later, no problem.

Ah, another new term out of the Nerdish land. ;)
Now you know how much I know about open9x. ;) only played with the menu wheel encoder. ;) but I think basic programing is not much difference from er9x with some variation with a few times I played with it.
hmm, with the new long range rx, I think this one would be great for FPV /longer range model while my Sk9x will be for heli and a mixed bag of different modules and existing Frysky 'short rang' module and 'toy' models like WL toys, X4... which may need some modding. I am not sure i want to do any mod on this one. ;)
perfect completement to each other. great. I think the time I get it is when the long range rx comes out. After all, my Sky9x tx can do everything it does now. ;)
This tx is all Alu case? so the screw will be in Alu socket? or jus the facing is Alu?

I really have to say, I don't see any future for 800.0 Tx on the market now beside the die hard brand followers. ;)

If possible could the audio format require for OpenTx and the naming conventions be included in this doc. Or the wiki of same?

I'm assuming it is the same as for the ersky board, but would like confirmation and think it will be of interest to new users.

Thanks

A section on sound would be helpful in several areas. The formats are WAV-alaw and WAV-ulaw. What to do with them after that would be a nice addition to the wiki -- and also a good topic for a how to video.

Merci.

Good job on manual, It took me just 10 mins. to get basic plane setup as test.
Just one suggestion, for the printable PDF version, please format the pages with page numbers. You went through the trouble to produce a table of contents . yet individual pages not numbered.

Thanks

Hi All
I have just received my Taranis so a big thanks to all who have helped in its development. :D

This post is regarding the installation of the Zadig driver for Win XP as written in the excellent manual.
After many aborted attempts to flash the firmware I didn`t realise that you had to CONNECT the Taranis BEFORE downloading or opening the Zadig file, in order to obtain the Bootloader device, as it is not stated in the manual. It might be obvious to some but not for us lesser mortals. If this could be added to that section it will no doubt help someone.

I apologies if there has been any postings on this before.

Happy Xmas and New Year to all

Roger

The first thing to do is to power your radio off and connect it to your computer's USB port.
