Hi,
I am having trouble with getting the charging system to work.
I have a 1968 Triumph TR250 which I got it back in 1973 that needed a lot of repairs.
The alternator (charging system) was not working
and I had an old Chrysler generator which I installed (this was working well)
and now it has failed.

Purchased and installed a new alternator for TR250 which is also not working
and which is not a match to the original wiring even though is sold to be a match.

I have only connected the large Brown / White wire to the center alternator terminal.
There are two other smaller wires which are Brown / Yellow and Brown / Green
with there smaller connector terminals, which I have not connected,
because these connector terminals are to small to make the connections to the alternator.

The car wiring is not matching up with this new TR250 alternator.

Found some more wiring info that looks more like what this new TR250 alternator may be.

This maybe what the wiring should be.

Large Brown/White wire from Battery (+) to alternator center large terminal.

Smaller Brown/Yellow wire from ignition light to alternator top small terminal.

Small Brown/Green wire to ? (maybe to a dash light and maybe connected with the top small terminal).

Update: With the Smaller Brown/Yellow wire from ignition light to the
alternator top small terminal, the new alternator is now Charging properly.

Note: I also found some more info about the alternator's top small terminal.
This top smaller terminal must have at least two volts from the battery when
the Ignition switch is turned ON.
When the voltage to this top small terminal is less then two volts,
it will prevent the alternator from charging.

The small Brown/Green wire that may go to a dash light somewhere, I checked with the multimeter
and it seems to not be connected to anything.
I did try, by connecting it with the smaller Brown/Yellow wire from ignition light
and nothing happened. I left it disconnected for now.

Also with the Ignition switch when turned Off, the dash lights are ON all the time.
Need to investigate this more, maybe the dash light ON/Off dimmer switch is the problem.
I will disconnect the battery for now, so it will not discharge it.

Update:
I turned the dash light switch all the way down and push on it too and which had no affect.
After disconnecting the battery and reconnecting it, the dash lights seem to be working better now
as the dash lights are OFF with the battery connected now.
Maybe the dash light switch has debris and dampness in it.
It is hard to get the dash out to have access to the switches and gages,
but looks like this maybe be a needed thing to do.
