I have on order a new ftdi breakout board. It might be it, although it doesnt explain why it worked with the old versions...jhsa wrote:I'm still thinking about what the problem could have been

Analog input for X8R
Re: Analog input for X8R
Re: Analog input for X8R
that is what is making me think.. why work with the older version of the IDE and not with the latest..
Which FTDI do you own? I have the "sparkfun FTDI basic breakout"..

Re: Analog input for X8R
A Chinese one from ebay. The one with the square, printer like, USB plug
Re: Analog input for X8R
Brilliant software Mike,
I just tried it out with Arduino Pro Mini.
Really good is the way you've "damped" the falling voltage so it doesn't alarm
with a picosecond dip of the LiPo voltage
Good work, thankyou!

FrSky have chosen not to put any analog input ports on the X8R receiver. Many users would find one such input very useful.
Implementation:
Use a small Arduino to read an analog signal and send this to the X8R using the SPort protocol.
I used a Mini Lite, but the Pro Mini is the basically the same device.
Connections:
SPort +V ---> Arduino +9V
SPort -V ---> Arduino 0V
SPort signal <--- Arduino I/O 4
Arduino 0V <--- Analog ground
Arduino A3 <--- Analog input 0-3.3V (tolerates 4.5V)
Here is my first code effort.
Unzip the files as an Arduino sketch and download to the Arduino Mini.
Mike.
Re: Analog input for X8R
For those interested, this thread I believe is a similar effort, with a simple board in the works.

Re: Analog input for X8R
well, some people might not want to build boards and they have arduinos, so, why not using them?

Re: Analog input for X8R
Any updates on this?
I am using it with good results except some "telemetry lost" warnings every now and then...

Re: Analog input for X8R
Not at present, as said on another thread "Too many projects not enough time!". I have done the design, linked above, that uses a small ATTINY processor and provides the same function. I'm waiting for the FrSky UART sensor that has two analog ports before I look at any updates.

Re: Analog input for X8R
I am not sure but will this new Smart Port to UART Converter from FrSky give us the option to have
two external analog Telemetry Ports (A1 & A2) with the X8R Receiver?
(Dec. 04, 2013) New Release: FCS-40A, FLVSS, GPS and SP2UART (Smart Port to UART Converter, w/ 2 ADC ports).
Click on this for more info: (http://frsky-rc.com/media/mediaItem.php?m_id=26)
I have not been able to find it for sale any where in the US as of Jan. 06 2014.
