Just wanted to share my setup:
Image
We've got a good link up to 4 meters with 2 x 9XR Pro setup the same way.

While I was there I've added 2 push buttons to my 9XR Pro. I'm using these buttons for functions like flip or things like this. I've used the 6 pos switch option.

Nice.. On mine, I have eliminated the stock PCB antenna and soldered a Dipole antenna. I had very good range, more than 20 meters at the field, between my pro and another radio with a BT and a frsky rx antenna :D but sometimes would interfere with the telemetry. So, I downgraded my BT dongle to a normal frsky rx antenna. And that is what I use on my radios now. Only one still has a dipole. I might keep it that way and use it only as the student radio :)

I still didn't get to install push buttons on my pro.. there are other mods I also want to do to it.. I did install 4 push buttons on the back of 2 of my 9x radios. One with 9xtreme board, and the other with an Ar9x board.. See picture.

Another mod that will be done is actually a little project of mine that I have been testing since a few weeks now, and it will be installed on all my radios, except the 9xtreme that already has it.
It is an RF module soft power switch, so we can easily turn both modules (internal and external) ON or OFF, depending on the active model. This is particularly useful if you use multi modules ;)
Mike of course implemented OFF settings for both PPM1 and PPM2. Thank you so much for that as it made this possible..
Will post details in a near future. Here is the project thread

uhmmm , how do you connect to the actual Pro's motherboard , Com 3 ?

Referring specifically to what type of plug is used on Com3 .? can I get similar plug somewhere :?:

I looked through all my cables and nothing seems to fit , using a servo lead type connector also does not seem to make proper contact (or does it?) ... how did you guys connect to Com3 ?

?

thanks ..

Hi, Joao,
I've try hook up BT mod to AR9x board, but got this:
DSCF0630.jpg
Mine is HC-05, but has a different baseplate:
DSCF0634.jpg
I don't cut KEY track going to BT:
DSCF0633.jpg
Connect it into COM3 port, Tx-Rx, Rx-Tx, GND, 5V (baseplate has an 3.3V stab) and CHIP ERASE pins:
DSCF0628.jpg
DSCF0631.jpg
I've try 5- and 4-wire (without KEY-CHIP ERASE wire) connection - BT's LED blink, but Tx don't see module.
My question is: must I configure BT mod by AT commands before use? It's my old module used with ArduCopter, I've change name to "hexa", baud rate... not, but I'm not sure... Any hint is appreciated...

Are you sure that module is a HC-05?
I think I have never seen one like that..

Can you check with a multimeter that the pad where your yellow wire is soldered connects to the BT module's pin 34??

Yes, module is HC-05. Pin 34 connected to KEY pad. I begin to doubt about baud rate... Will check it tomorrow...

The radio should configure the baud rate as well..
the setting to set the Bluetooth baud rate is in Radio Setup/General. It should be set to 115200

Damn, it has KEY pad connected to pin 34 AND pin 26. And when I've rename it some years ago, remember it was recognized as linvor device. So it's HC-06... Nothing to do... Or may be useful however? And also - can HC-05 be configured by Tx: baud, name, role, or only by PC?

Yes, a HC-05 may have those parameters set from the Tx.

Mike.

I think the HC-06 could be used for telemetry only.
But in my opinion just get a HC-05. They are so cheap. ;) :)

Hi Joao, they arrived and works! :D

I've cut EN track, bent pin and solder it to button pad.

I did not try yet to pair Tx to others, but i'm pretty sure that all would be OK. Really, it's possible to play with BT settings by Tx. Thanks a lot for a help ;)

I'm a noob and awaiting my GPS module from China. I have a 9xrPro with Frsky JR-XJT module and have updated to 218 so far.

I've been reading a lot and have a couple of questions.

What range can be experienced for trainer mode with the Frsky antenna soldered to the bluetooth?

Is there a picture showing the location of the antenna with this mod?

Thanks, (a different) Mike

Still not much range. But it depends where you put the antenna.
It should be a 90º to your XJT antenna.
I have one with a dipole antenna and the range is better, but I'm not sure yet what effects it could have on the frsky equipment.
With just a receiver antenna the range is enough if both student and teacher stay together..
You can't see it in the pictures because when I took them I still hadn't soldered the other antenna, but it is hot glued to the inside of the radio's case. Not in the battery compartment.

Could you use this to connect your controller to your PC? The purpose would be to use bluetooth for simulator so no more annoying cables.

Not at the moment, But it would be nice ;) I would also be happy with a USB Joystick on Skyboard type boards, the same as on the 9xtreme radio ;) :)

The PC doesn't know how to use Bluetooth as a joystick. If you want wireless the easiest way is to use an RC receiver with PPM output and a PPM joystick USB interface.

hmmm, maybe having a wireless Wi-Fi dongle installed in the radio instead of bluetooth ;) That would also open a few other doors, while keeping the existing functions :)

Doesn't help towards the original concern though, there are no network->joystick bridging solutions for the PC.

When there is a will there is always a way. I have learnt that since the time evrybody was saying that voice on the 9x radio wouldn't be possible. :)

Yea Joao I remember those many posts you made asking for voice.
Well it worked out. Thank you.
Any chance you can use a never used magasound board?
I bought a spare but then the Taranis came out as well as the 9Xtreme board and I never used it.
I'll have to search thru all my "round to it" box of parts.
Pm me and it's yours if you can use it.
Thanks for your helping get voice going on the 9x.

Hi, nice to see you here again :)
Thanks for the offer, but I have no use for it :) The only radio I have with Er9x (Atmega2561) has an ArduVoice board I built using an arduino, again, thanks to Mike for developing the firmware for it, and for all his help and advice debugging all the problems I had while building it..

All my other radios have upgrade boards like the 9xtreme, skyboard and Ar9x :)

I have kept all the voice modules I built since the very first one. So I own all voice module "History". I have the very second voice module with Atmega328 to speak :) Someone else was faster and built the first :o :( :D

Thanks again

João

If you or Mike need a new set of sticks or a display, I have spares.
Maybe even an original 9x mainboard.
I owe you guys for all your help.

Thanks, I have a couple of those as well :)
The mainboards, I was sending people the ones that I repaired, and they would post the broken ones to me.. I would repair them and send to the next person.. It was fun :)

Hello. My HC-05 (zs-040) card does not have any tracks you have to cut. Can I connect the wire from the EN input to the pin 34? Do not use soldered contacts for loops. Need to remove the button?
