Switch Upgrades

erskyTx runs on many radios and upgrade boards
ersky9x was a port of er9x for use on the sky9x board.

Duuuurrrrrr!!!! ... Operator error on all counts! Sorry about that Mike! Working admirably now! Awesome.

Is there any way to rename ELE in the SWCH selection? Or maybe have an IDy for what could be now known as the ID3/4/5 switch? In a 'test' version maybe for us saddos' that will/have done the switch mod? :P

I know that not everyone would need it for sure - but I am getting a bit OCD about this radio as it has grown beyond anything I had even dreamt of 18 months ago ... hehehehe!!!

The switches now can be used as source. So, when a sw is used as source it will work as "FULL and then assigning a switch"..
Now we only use a switch as source.. Sorry, can't explain better.. maybe someone can translate it to English? :D

^ and v .... lol!!! shift 6 and 'v'

What I was getting at is in the Edit Mix > "Source: SWCH > ELE" could be say changed to "Source: SWCH > IDy" as the ELE switch is no longer available as it has been replaced with the new 3-Pos.

Further down for Switch: ELE^, ELE- and ELEv could be now ID3, ID4 and ID5 maybes? Just scattering thoughts ...

I think, as these can be used as 2 position switches, or modded to 3 position switches, we should keep the name.. that would also match the labels on the radio.. ;)
For me I would number all the switches, meaning that they are not assigned to AIL, ELE; RUD, etc. But there are the labels.. maybe better we keep the names.. :)

As João says, you are able to use any of the switches as source, including ELE whether it is 2 position or 3 position.

Now did you want/need a third 3-position switch? (or a fourth?).
You can change RUD or THR to 3 position now. Use the wire that was the ELE switch signal. Replace one of those two switches with a 3-position switch, connect the centre (common) switch pin to ground, and the outer two pins, one to the RUD or THR signal and the other to the now unused ELE signal. Then just set the switch to 3-POS in the hardware menu.

On the other side, you can change either AIL or GEA to 3-POS. For the extra input you use DAC1, which you can find on J23 pin5 on the Rev B board (J11, pin 5 of the ver 3 board).

You can only make RUD or THR into 3-POS when you have done the ELE mod, but the AIL/GEA change can be done anytime.

Mike, wouldn't it be better to map SWCH to just after the sticks in the selection list? At the moment it is nearly at the end. And I think in mixes, SWCH might be the option that we use more often so I guess it should be somewhere at the beginning.. Also with the possibility of having switches as source, do you think we still need FULL?

Thanks,

I think you must have SAM-BA configured for a SAM3S2 processor (128K flash). The first prototype(s) I had only had this processor, so I had published a SAM-BA setup for this. r188 fits in 128K flash.
Try running SAM-BA directly. When it asks for the board type use at91sam3s4-9x if available in the list, otherwise use at91sam3s4-ek.
You should be able to flash the firmware directly with SAM-BA.

Once you have done this, you will have to bootloader installed as well, so then just forget about using SAM-BA at all. Uncheck the use SAM-BA option on eepskye. To use eepskye with the Tx, power the Tx on with both horizontal trim switches held towards the middle, this starts the Tx in bootloader mode. Then just run eepskye and off you go!

Mike.
WTG Mikey Boy!!! You've done it again old chap! You know I've gotten so spoiled using eepesky that I didn't even think of using Samba directly.

Way back when, before the Sky9 board, I had bought 25 long bat 3 pos switches for 10 bucks on ebay. I used a few, sold a bunch and I still have seven left...who knew!

Now to get the resistors.

All I can say is WOW. So far I've gotten 4 people to use the 9X and they love it and I have a friend who can't program his DX7 to do what he needs for his quad but he is reluctant to change.

And now you have the bootloader and don't need samba anymore.. Only if something catastrophic happens and you have to reset your radio. :) But I don't think it happened yet..

EDIT: Trainer menu looks good now.
Had a look at the debug you put in the hardware menu.. I can see some jitter when the ELE switch is in the middle and down.

That will need some fiddling to achieve. At the moment, everything is in internal code numeric order. If I just change the order, all existing models will be wrong. I can look to do something similar to that I've done with the switches, when time permits.
jhsa wrote:Also with the possibility of having switches as source, do you think we still need FULL?
Yes, you still need that if you want to use a custom switch to control a mix.

There's a bit of a problem in the SAFETY/VOICE switches. They already use codes now also used for the new 3-POS switches.
I'm working on it, I may need to re-code the new switches to cope.

Re: Switch Upgrades

Post by MikeB »

The problem was with switches in 'A' mode. As well as a switch, they had 8, 12 and 16 seconds tagged on the end of the switch setting.
These values conflicted with the codes I used for some of the 3-POS switches, and you couldn't edit them properly either.

Anyway, I've fixed the problem and posted new test versions. I have had to change the codes used for the new 3-POS switches, which means anywhere you are already using them will probably need to be checked. This is why it is in test of course, and not yet released.

While doing this checking I realised the voice switches had a limitation on the switches of only allowing the "True" value, you couldn't use !AIL for example. This was left over from er9x only having 6 bits for the switch code. Since ersky9x has the full 8 bits, I've allowed the !SWITCH values as well in these test versions.

I've now wired a 3-way switch in to my ersky9x 9X as the ELE switch properly, it was just hanging out on wires for testing. The prototype 9XR-PRO still has extra switches on hanging wires, as well as a rotary encoder on hanging wires! At least it means I can test things on it!

Have loaded up the latest Test version, and the mixes for the new switch system does need reconfiguring. No biggie. Well worth it. Thanks Mike :)

Edit: Meant to ask, a bit off-topic I know Mike, but in your mind, worth the wait for the 9X-R Pro or go for a Taranis?

Mike. I did think of that before.. But I didn't say anything because

VS7 !AIL ON Is equal to VS7 AIL OFF, right?

Ok, it might make a difference when playing a variable or even when using BOTH ;) :)

It's actually easier if they are the same as other switches!

I've posted a test version of eepskye on the test versions page. This tries to support the extra 3-POS switches, while still being compatible with the Taranis version of ersky9x.

Mike, taranis version will end up being different anyway because the radios are very different. Maybe if in eepskye we could choose between taranis and skyboard? And maybe even eepe? Then we would have only one program..

You already can! File|Preferences and choose SKY, 9XR-PRO or Taranis. eepskye then changes to support the selected target.
Handling eepe for the AVR processor as well will be quite a lot more work. I may get to it sometime, but plenty of other things to do at present.

Mike, just tried the latest eepskye.. If the model attached below is the first to open the sim with, the sim crashes.. if I first open the sim with any other model, then it doesn't crash when I simulate this model..
Tried a new eeprom with this model only and created other models.. it happens all the time and it doesn't matter which model number it has..

An initialisation problem. That model starts in flight mode 1, with fade in. I just needed to set flight mode 0 to be initialised in the sim.

I'll check. I'm noticing, on eepskye, with this model that the MODES page shows trim entries for ELE and AIL, but on the SIM it shows as ELE and THR. Which is correct?
It may just be a labelling problem on the MODES tab.

So the SIM is wrong (still!).
I've loaded the model into my SKY Tx. I set FM1 to be controlled by RUD rather that !SW5, and when I change the RUD switch the ELE trim does move.
Now eepskye seems to be correct as well, moving AIL and ELE trims.
I think there has always been a situation that the SIM doesn't startup with FM0 trim values from the model, they always start at 0.

Hmmm, I'm a bit lost here.. Mike, please try to launch the simulator, editor on the TRIMS tab.. Flick the gear switch and change the values on the editor.. I think I can detect some odd behavior in there but I just can't explain exactly what.. Sorry if I might be trying to find a problem where there is none, but better say it.. The radio and the simulator definitely behave different when flicking the switch..

AHhhhhhhh, the sim is not reading the trims. therefore the aileron trim moves when the flight mode changes.. It should have that value also when the mode is off.. the trims for FM0 are always zero.. the sim doesn't take them into account. checked with other models too.. Now I understand why the aileron trim moves in the sim but not in the radio.. I hope this helps you Mike.
