Jumper T12 Multi FrskyX Not Available (R222)

erskyTx runs on many radios and upgrade boards
ersky9x was a port of er9x for use on the sky9x board.

Jumper T12 Multi FrskyX Not Available (R222)

Post by Oli »

Hi all,

just played around with my T12, installed erskyTX (R222) and found that FrskyX shows "N/A" when selected in the protocol settings (Jumper 4in1 Multi). Any idea what I'm doing wrong? It does work with OpenTX, so not a hardware issue.

Cheers
Oli

Nothing wrong. As I did with the 9XR-PRO when it first came out, FrskyX is disabled until Jumper reach an agreement with FrSky to allow it to be used on the T12. HK did reach an agreement with FrSky, so FrskyX is fully operational on the 'PRO.

Ah! Makes sense, thanks. Let me know if you need testers for FrskyX on the T12 ;) You don't release the erskyTx source files, by any chance?

Mike, anyone that can compile the firmware from the source files could also activate the FrskyX support before compiling, right? Isn't that a problem?
Or is it a problem only if you release pre-compiled binaries??

Not a lawyer, but since it's open source, anybody can make any changes to the code before compiling it. It would probably be different if he posted a tutorial on specifically how to activate FrskyX.

Thanks for pointing me to the repo, Mike.

That's the thing, ErskyTX is open source, the FrskyX protocol isn't :) Hence my question.

The implementation of the communication as done by erskytx/opentx IS open source. It's there and anyone can make use of it as they see fit for their own use. If it's for commercial purposes it might or might not be different depending on whether FrSky has some kind of protection related to that.

So, in other words, the guys from the Jumper radio could just compile ErskyTX with FrskyX enabled and use it for their radio?? And that is OK?

Sorry, just trying to understand.

It is OK, but they would need to comply with the GNU licence and fully publish any changes they do.
Then, if they are using it for commercial purposes, they need to check they are not infringing on any patents etc.

Thanks Mike.. so, as far as I understand it is their problem, not yours.. :) Good :)
And also means that jumper radio owners could compile the firmware with the missing protocol, and flash it to their radios..

That's why I asked for the source ;) but I fear it's just going to be another RC rabbit hole to spend way too much time in. OTOH running erskyTx on my T12 with FrSkyX receivers would be sweet.
