Sky9x Rotary Encoder Option

erskyTx runs on many radios and upgrade boards
ersky9x was a port of er9x for use on the sky9x board.

Just done a few updates to the way the encoder is handled - r115 available.

So, suppose you do a LONG LEFT, and get to the RADIO SETUP screen.
Turning the encoder moves you through the different screen, like rignt and left.
Press the encoder switch, and then rotating the encoder takes you up and down the current screen. If you get back to the top, and press the switch again, you go back to the left/right mode between screens.
Lower down the screen, if you are at an ON/OFF option, pressing the encoder switch toggles the value. If it is a multi-valued item, then pressing the encoder switch enters edit mode, and now rotating the encoder changes the value. Another press of the encoder switch returns you to the up/down mode.
A long press of the encoder switch acts like the EXIT button, except when on the main screen when it acts like MENU LONG, returning to the last active menu.
If there are several values on a single line, you have to use the left/right buttons to get to them.

Have a 'play' and let me know how well you find it works.

Still thinking about the multiple items on a line, and how to decide between editing the first item, and moving between them.
I'm also wondering about adding a 'tell-tail' on the top line showing which mode the encoder is in.

That sounds good Mike! I'll try it this week and report back.
Now, how about a straightforward pdf file of the pcb anyone?
I have photo resist pcb (somewhere), uv lightbox I made yonks ago
(too big to lose!) and some ferric chloride (somewhere) and some
clear film.
Given the pdf, I WILL find the stuff and have a go at making a few
I quite like the idea of drilling the holes slightly undersize and
tapping the pins through, should keep them all nice and straight!

Thanks,

Clive

Just a thought, would it be possible to put an arrow pointing up on the board to help with orientation?

Hi all,

i've just joined on the 9x forums and i recently purchased a turnigy 9x system
and after reading this post about a rotary encoder option i was wondering if the encoder option would work on a stock 9x main board.
Btw i absolutly hate those clunky up/down left/right buttons on the tx
thanks!

HI ALL,

Yesterday i decided to purchase 2 rotary encoders from digi-key in the US, and to my surprise !! i received my order the next day! talk about quick delivery!! WOW!! .
After examining the 2 encoders i really like the feel of the 4 way and the center switch, as for the rotary it seems quite a precise movement, for 6.13 Bucks each can't complain!
now the only thing i have to to is to make a circuit board using the template i saw in another post.

Now i am still waiting for the usb asp interface so i can change the FW to support the rotary function .
this will be a Major Improvement to the t9x .

Anyway this is my 2cents worth. :D

Alright. I shot some video of PCB prep and installation. I haven't gotten around to any real editing yet, so it's an hour and 10 minutes - no audio, so put on your favorite music album. It's HD, so if you're having a hard time seeing what's going on, flip to a higher quality setting and go fullscreen. Hope it helps someone.

Will be watching some bits again to make sure, and yes, it has indeed helped, and it should help others that are going this route, it's one of the simpler hardware mods that should appeal to many users.

Keeping up to speed with all the changes that are ongoing is proving "interesting", so much is happening, and there are so many other possibles at the same time.

In vid I did not see any thing mentioned about the 'short' of a few pins. I thought somewhere it is said that some of those pins need to be shorted because te ersky9x board is different from the stock board.

Ah, yes. The top two legs and the bottom two legs of each stock tactile switch are electrically bridged together. Soldering a jumper wire between each of the corresponding pin pairs would be the surest way to get it right. In the interest of moders' sanity, it should only be neccessary to bridge the contact-side pins (rather than common, which should be connected if any of the directional switches are working) of switches that aren't working. Exactly which pairs those are should be fairly easy to figure out, provided the ersky board layout (which i don't have).

got mine baords from Hippo yesterday.
Well, this is what I have done to Iksbob/Hippo's contemporary art ;)

All I can hope now is those pins are not much off when inserted onto the main board. Darn it is hard to get 16 pins lined up right. Got my eyes crossed when all pins are soldered.

May be someone can draw out exactly which two sets of pins need to be jumped so people can follow easier.

I was fiddling around with the board. I found there are 4 pins totally not connected to anything. are those 4 pins needed at all?

Might have to touch a very thin track with some solder on one of the boards but it's ok.
Now to watch the video..

They provide mechanical support, and in the case of the pin pairs that need jumpers (for the sky9X board), they are also electrical connections.

just a question.. for the stock board we don't need any jumpers, right? also that is a stock board on your video?
