Re: DSM2 work
Ok tks but I don't understand all this DSM stuff. Is DSM what is needed for the Skyfly tx to make it work with heli's?

Re: DSM2 work
DSM/DSM2/DSMx are all Spektrum's trade name for their version of 2.4 ghz R/C technology.
ER9X is capable of generating the type of signals necessary to use the DSM2 or DSMx RF module from the transmitters that come with the RTF Eflite models. (And also the RF section from the DX6i)
They don't use standard PPM signals, but instead a serial data format.
So if you like ER9X and want to use it to fly one of the BNF models like the Vapor,Champ, Mosquito, MSRx,MCPx, etc you can buy the RTF version and "harvest" the RF section from it to use in your ER9X.

Re: DSM2 work
Boy is it fun to fly my Blade quad with the er9x ! One thing I noticed is the THR and ALE switch doesn't work, then I realized I didn't do the hardware mod of moving the 2 wires on this er9x. I have 3 of these things now so it's hard to keep track of what I have done ! Flying the quad with the er9x feels so much better than the 'toy' tx that came with the Blade. I think I fly a little better now. Today I took it outside to do some flying and wow, what a ball. I hope others will put the dx5i or dx4i into the er9x. It is well worth it !

So if I done this mod to my Skyfly TH9X I would be able to use my tx to fly ANY of these BNF heli's?pmackenzie wrote:DSM/DSM2/DSMx are all Spektrum's trade name for their version of 2.4 ghz R/C technology.

And the tx would be able to switch from airplanes to heli's?
Is there a How To on what is needed to to this mod and how to do it? >> What FW,wiring needed, etc?
Thanks

Can you add some pictures of helis and models that will work with this DSM2 extension (low power)?
Reason is, I will get a low power module, but I have no idea, which type of models ccan be flown with it.

There is a pic of all the rx's I have tested. Those came from a variety of sources, including parkzone bnf models.
Posting pics of models is useless, the rx can be changed. The tx and rx bind together, not the model.
In my bnf parkzone corsair , i have a turnigy 9ch rx, won't bind with my dsm tx.

So... if is says... DSM2. it will work.
If in doubt... anything that works with a DX6i will work!

Thanks, I'll add them to where they need to go. (I couldn't find the ones I have, I have a few, they are all hiding... they know they are doomed... )

Re: DSM2 work
Great work on the FAQ! Very informative, and complete with lots of good photos. I can't wait to receive my 9x and add a dsm module out of one of the many "toy" controllers that came with my micro bnf planes. Thank you!
Does anyone have any info on the switch mod performed here?
http://www.hacksmods.com/2011/12/spektr ... om-hp6dsm/
I will be using the low power module, but would really like to reproduce the switch shown above. It is such an elegant and clean mod.

Re: DSM2 work
Ok let me see if I got this right before I buy.
The DX4e would be better then the DSM2? Longer range.
They will both bind with BNF kits? (airplanes-heli's)
I will still be able to use my sklyfly with my other planes that I have setup now?
Thanks

Re: DSM2 work
The lp4 is low power, good for micro planea, small park fliers.
the hp modules (high power) like those from a dx6,5,4 or those
considered full range, will give you better range.
Either will work with bnf models, no problem. Flew my
Night vapor last night, dual rates, expo, and some other settings to show
Off.

Re: DSM2 work
DSM2 could be low or high power.
For high power modules look for DX4e,DX5e or HP6DSM
The first two will also do DSMX which is Spektrum's new transmission scheme.
Here is one on RCG for $30:

Re: DSM2 work
No, DSM2 is the protocol. The module can be lp or hp.
Lp4 low power, dx4,5,6 hp6dsm are all hp.
If you look at the wiki, you can see each board.
Craigslist, ebay... that's about it. Classifieds?

Cool!MikeB wrote:DSM2 is now a standard protocol selectable in all versions.
Mike.
I'm currently awaiting both my 9X and a 2nd hand DX4e to scavenge the module from. I'll also do a dual system with FrSky telemetry as main and Spektrum for the BnF thingies.
I haven't yet decided for sure how to mount that, but the initial idea was to reuse the 9X's original module case to integrate the Spektrum module into, and swap between that and my JR-style FrSky module. Problem might be to make interchangeable connections for both - I'll see. If there's enough room to always leave the FrSky module and integrate the Spektrum module in the main case that might be more practical.
Oh, if it interests anyone, I have a spectrum analyser and before deciding to get a DX4e I measured the output of the low power "toy" module to see if it was really that low and if I couldn't use the one I had instead. Measured it at 4dBm, compared to the 18-23dBm of a high power one. Definitely don't use LP for anything "serious".
