It's a 20mW 5.8GHz TX, cam is the "1gr camera" that can be found at several FPV shops, but hacked to replace the lens with a wider angle one I scavenged on an "HK Wing Camera" and that didn't have the same thread size... so pretty custom :P

20mw won't take you very far I would say.. But I guess more than enough for that model.. maybe 100 meters at best??

I like it.. and would try something like that.. I have a little plane but I guess would be too small and the 9x still can't work with it I think.. It's a kyosho minium edge 540.. I think only the plane weights as much as your video system

I'm getting a headache just thinking about how jumpy that video will be :)

Any details on the radio system? (besides the 9x of course)

This is 20mW on my MPX Fox, 600m away from me and 5m AGL :P :

Yep, I see what those look like, a friend has one - I think that would be a bit too much indeed :P
The lightest I attempted was a 2.5gr video system on a 5gr plane, but that was unfortunately just a bit too much for it :P

The lightest "successful" was on an X-Twin, video system was 2.5gr not 5 like written on the video (5gr included a battery wiich I could do without):

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDuBbdTQKPo

But the X-twin wasn't that exciting to fly, and its 27MHz remote had approx 50m range, so interest was quite limited...

You might be surprised! Radio is fully stock, it's one of those Eflite BNF planes: http://www.e-fliterc.com/Products/Defau ... d=EFLU4180
So just the DSM module in the 9x and off we go. They even had the great idea of adding a connector with a 5th channel for my panning servo :)

What kind of antenna were you using? did you make one? sorry about all the questions but I still didn't start doing it.. My club limits FPV a lot because of the insurance. but with such a small plane maybe there would be no prob as the damage would be minor in case of a problem...

A simple wire antenna on TX side, and an 11dBi patch on the receiver:

I did manage to squeeze in a maiden FPV flight with the Sbach this morning before the wind came, there are a couple of things to adjust but it's already quite decent!

Yep, with a small plane they should really not have any reason to object... here it's OK, as I've been there since the beginning of FPV nobody complained. However I haven't been flying at the club for years, it's just easier to go in a random open area close to home or wherever I happen to go. Scenery is often more interesting too :)

I certainly wouldn't recommend an UMX aerobatic plane to start FPV though, it would just be asking for trouble. You have to be very careful what gear you put in, how, it's not particularly easy to fly and not forgiving, and fragile in case you mess up...
The Easystar and comparable alternatives are good to start, and in a smaller version the Fox is nice and easy too as long as you fly in calm weather. But not RTF at all...
But you definitely don't need a huge plane or crazy ranges to have fun:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EcBhF-QCrqE

I was still on 2.4GHz video and (unreliable) 35MHz R/C there, but you get the idea. And 130gr won't hurt anybody.

Yeah, I tried with a friend's twinstar.. I'm also a real pilot so the only difference is not having the instruments and not feeling the aircraft.
But my friend uses a lot of stuff cos he wants to fly long distance. I would just enjoy aerobatics with it. of course would need panning camera with an headtracker.. A small aerobatic plane would be perfect for a start as long as I didn't fly too low the first couple of times..

How low can you go , awesome.
Could have sworn your prop would turn green.
And @ 2.20 you where damn near your antenna.
This is what it´s all about , fun cheap no fuss.
Great videos , both.

Hmm no building log except those photos I posted earlier really :P

I'll buy and equip a second one once I've got the new camera/lens and make the "final" video though, so maybe, if you beg enough... :P

Okay, well I'll see about doing something - but I haven't really made any mod on the plane itself. Just removed the canopy and glued the pan servo, the rest of the work is only the video gear...

I am really interseted in setting up a FPV system with overhead goggle with overhead on screen display of flight data and GPS and using joy stick to fly like a real pilot. Any one has experience set up a system like that?
I am searching for all the components that all work together.
I know I need a display google, telemetry, gps, wind, altimeter sensor, joy stick can be hooked up with Tx, a head tracking gyro so I can turn my head and view while flying. But all these need to work together and not interefere with TX and have enough range ~ 2Km. Any suggestion?
Have no previous experience with fPv beside reading about it.

Just a little comment - The joystick isn't any better or intersting than the radio. It's usually less precise, and just adds more bulk, not sensations :)

I saw somewhere a project like that.. the person built a radio with the joystick included.. something like that.. just can't remember where. maybe in this forum..

Wel Hobbyking have (or had?) a Joystick-to-PPM interface. There are other PC-based solutions with a USB to PPM interface.

But the joystick having a short lever, it makes little sense compared to an actual airplane, unless you want to simulate an Airbus... but then you're better off with just the radio :P
What some have done and is closer to reality is putting a radio gimbal at ground level, with a looong lever that gets up to the seat. That way the displaced point of rotation is more like what it is on bigger ones.
But then again, without force feedback and G's it pretty much doesn't add anything.
When you fly FPV with a radio, after a short while you forget about the radio and how you move the sticks. It's just the same with a different stick, you'll have done all the work only to end forgetting about the controls while you concentrate about the flying :)

I have looked at the HK fastshark... Does the 5.8GHz system go 2KM though?
With the 'true' FPV, I think you can fly easy out of 1KM while up in the air.

Doesn't the xbox or playstation have a life size cockpit joy stick that can be hooked up with the T9X?

Flying Heli is fun, flying plane~kind of boring  , But flying overhead goggle FPV with OSD --- super duper. :)

My ultimate goal is to build a overhead goggle system with life size joy stick and foot paddle (for rudder), one push/pull control for throttle like a real plane. mod a folding chair, mount the paddle, joystick, throttle life size to the chair so i can take it to the field , set up the chair and fly like a real pilot. Just need to have all these parts all put together. :) Max range is desired. ultimately, put a night vision video lens so it is all weather capable. :)

Sorry Kilrah, did not mean to rob your thread. This is going from mini to full scale FPV. :) may be I should start another thread so you guys can help me out for this project.

Check out rcmodelreviews on YouTube (or the forum), he's flown fpv with 5.8Ghz For video and FrSky 2.4Ghz for the plane and flew to around the 2km mark. Videos were from about a year ago from memory? You do want to make sure you've got a RTL capability if youre going that far though

Kilah: what frequency your mini 50 mW Tx operates 5xx0 or 5xx5 MHz? I found the 200 mw Tx/Rx (5xx5) set from HK only works with the silver goggle not with the fat shark goggle (5xx0). The mini tx like yours at Hk does not sepcify what frequency it operates at.

None of those

The thing is, I sell FPV equipment in Europe, and the frequency set the 200mW set and its related equipment (my 25mW TX comes from the same manufacturer) works by default on (5705,5865,5665,5645,5885,5905,5925,5945MHz) are outside of the legally useable band in Europe. So I order them with a different frequency set that is within it (5733 5752 5771 5790 5809 5828 5847 5866 MHz).

But yeah. There are 2 main systems out there, the Fatshark/ImmersionRC one, and the Chinese one.
Mine is from the Chinese set, who make the large 200mW TX HK have, a bigger 500mW version, and also offer the naked TX module that is inside the packaged TX, both in 20mW and 200mW (size is the same, but power requirements differ), the matching silver RC305 receiver, and the silver goggles who obviously all work together.
