Audio (voice) - Stock 9X PCB
Re: Audio (voice) - Stock 9X PCB
Hello, guys!
I think for placed in TX Oliver's (Mike's) voice module can design a new board to replace the back TX board . http://aeroquad.com/entry.php?223-Turni ... or-SIM-use
It can be placed standard (no SMD) components. There's plenty of space. Of course you will need to place some existing connectors.
You like this idea?

Interesting idea. We'll see what can be done for stripboard first, as some people might like to get going with that.

hello
having forsaken a little forum
I thought modify my first eemarte card that was not good with http://emartee.com/product/42232/WTV020SD% 2020S% 20Music%% 20Sound 20Chipset
can you confirm the usefulness of this is that the v1.0 on it soft ?
or is it better to build the last card you are developing the previous having reached its limits

Mike as we are in crazy ideas mood I had another one..
Would it be possible to have folders with different voice packs on the SD Card and choose between them?? Or would that cost a lot of flash??

Re: Audio (voice) - Stock 9X PCB
I've been 'playing' with a possible, non-smd, layout. I've got it down to 60mm by 42mm (so far!):
And there are no mounting holes.
The SD card is on a 7 way connector, at the bottom. My idea would be to solder a micro SD adapter to this, and then you have a micro SD socket, again without any surface mount components.
Joao: Multiple voice packs may be possible.
Mike.
I haven't quite finished the audio output, no output cap or connector for the speaker, but a small space for this in the top corner. And there are no mounting holes.

Re: Audio (voice) - Stock 9X PCB
So not so crazy then Must think of something else
Mike, thats a very small board I can't believe that you could do it that small lol.. I just don't know how you can do that on a stripboard.. I'm trying to make mine with some SMD on the underside and I'm not even close to that size..
There's only one small problem, but that's my problem I don't have any through hole caps
Would it be possible fo me to modify your layout to use smd caps? only the small value ones. the electrolytic caps I have through hole ones..
Also , could you please post your schematic? might be a little different from the one I'm following
Thanks.

Re: Audio (voice) - Stock 9X PCB
Just to be clear, that layout is NOT stripboard, it's a proper, 2-sided, PCB layout. I wanted to see how small I could get it.
I'll post the circuit as soon as I have tested the serial interface to the PC.

AAhhhh, thought it would be a stripboard because I think that before you said you would try it. Maybe I misread it that's why it comes out so small

Re: Audio (voice) - Stock 9X PCB
Here is the extra circuitry to provide a serial connection to a PC as well as the connection to the M64. You can't use poth at the same time, obviously, as there is only the one serial port on the '328.
I have successfully sent data from the '328 to the PC, and I can see correct data arriving at the '328 RX pin from the PC, need to write some code to prove it is being received. Tested at 9600 baud.
Connections to the M64 may be made to the ends of a couple of resistors, you do not need to solder to the M64 pins.

SWEEEEEET.. Can go on with my huge board now
So, will have to use a 5V reg. Not 6V as I thought before.. will power the LM386 from Batt voltage then
Thanks Mike

Re: Audio (voice) - Stock 9X PCB
Mike, reading another topic I had another really crazy idea..
Could the m328 handle another 3 position switch?. We could replace the trainer sw as a push button on the back of the radio for example and place the 3 pos sw where the trainer was.. This second 3 pos sw was requested many times on the forums.
Too much flash, I guess?
I know, SHUT UP JOAO

Re: Audio (voice) - Stock 9X PCB
You can use 6V if you wish, The 5V connection on the serial interface is the RS232 voltage and this may be as hign as 12V. If you use more than 6V, just increase the value of the 2K2 resistor so you get 2-3mA through it when the transistor is ON.
Not so much the flash, mor we dont have the pins spare on the '328 any more, only 1 left I think. Just checked, maybe we have 3 spare pins. PC1, PC2 and PC3.
As a minimum, we should put a pad connected to each one to allow for something to be connected, they are possible analog inputs as well.
Mike.

Re: Audio (voice) - Stock 9X PCB
So. at 6V I don't have to change any values.. good. might try that.. I think I'm getting somewhere now. trying to put your latest piece of the circuit on the board now.. I'm using SMD for most of the resistors and caps but it might be possible to use standing normal 1/4W resistors instead of the smd resistors.. the caps are a bit more tricky.. I'm also using through hole tantalum caps instead of the radial elects.. when I finish with the design I'll see if it is possible to use normal caps.. but can't promise anything as I'm not used to this designing boards anymore..

Re: Audio (voice) - Stock 9X PCB
I ordered a couple of those chips a few days back, in the hope that they just might be programmed to V1.0. It will be about two or three weeks before I will get them to find out if they are. I don't hold out much hope on this. At least it will get my old board working in two line serial.JEANALTAYR wrote:I thought modify my first eemarte card that was not good with http://emartee.com/product/42232/WTV020SD% 2020S% 20Music%% 20Sound 20Chipset

Nice to see that DIL packages are the order of the day with the stripboard version of the new sound unit... That will enable me to program the chip myself.
I will wait and see before I take the leap, after doing the costings compared to the Emartee version. Of course if it gives extra features and the like, the comparison goes out of the window.

Everything on it, on one side, but unfortunately 2 bridges.
Tomorrow is made the board. 42.5 x 34.5 mm.
First one (or two) bottles of beer for steady hands.

Re: Audio (voice) - Stock 9X PCB
Hageha: Have you laid it out for a resonator, rather than a crystal? I can't see the two small capacitors we should have for a crystal. I think we should use a crystal for best voice output and baud rate generation.
I'm thinking about a stripboard version. We have added lots of nice extra functionality, however, is there a requirement for a stripboard circuit/layout that just replaces the existing stripboard/emartee board and just does the voice output? This is where we started from, and if someone has built the current stripboard, then they can probably build a new version, as long as they have a USBASP they can connect to it to program it.

It might be ready in an hour or two.. It might be around 80mm long

Re: Audio (voice) - Stock 9X PCB
For many of us that have already done all the work for the Emartee board, only to have been messed about by the people who decided in their wisdom to screw up the program for it. Yes I would be more than happy to just build a direct replacement for the original card. No problem with the replacement being bigger, as I have fitted the card itself over the main PCB with tons of space around it.MikeB wrote:is there a requirement for a stripboard circuit/layout that just replaces the existing stripboard/emartee board and just does the voice output? The best answer would be to fit a replacement chip to the Emartee card, that mimics the one with the original programming. Problem gone.
Re: Audio (voice) - Stock 9X PCB
For all of us that did that work for the emartee board this is a pain of course, and the others that want to do it but don't order the module from them because of their screw up..But I think those are ok because they still didn't spend the money on the emartee board..
But sometimes bad things bring other good things and now we will have more wonderfull features on the 9x. We have to keep looking to the positive side of it and move on..

Re: Audio (voice) - Stock 9X PCB
Ok guys, this is what I have so far.. Sorry, tried not to use SMDs but it's not easy, well at least not for me. Still have to check it for errors but will have to do it tomorrow. It's nearly 4am here.. Mike if you have a little time, could you please have a quick look and see if you find something wrong? thanks..
the board's size is about 85mm x 48mm.
João
EDIT: Some of the resistors and caps (if you can get small ones) could be replaced with through holes ones. The resistors would have to be standing.
EDIT_2: I just had another good look and didn't find any errors. So, I guess it's time to build and hope for the best
UPDATE: real size of my board is 83mm x 46,5mm

Mike,
J1 to either programmer or SD card
Do not scare me that I'm wrong.
Where we are in grade,
I can program the 328 as 168 with Pony Prog?
Can it be that it's been going with epee?
The 328's in it.

Oh, right. I had assumed the pads were for a micro SD socket, not a connector to a remote socket. Should work fine.
Yes, it looks like eepe will work as a programmer for the '328.
Mike.
Edit: Just added the M88 to eepe as an option and it programmed my Mega88 I'm testing with.
