Audio (voice) - Stock 9X PCB

er9x is the best known firmware. It has a superb range of features and is well supported by the community. Well worth trying out.

Check that the two wire jumpers on the soundboard are soldered ok.

Had a similar problem with a poor solder point on one of the jumpers.

I surely hope that is not the problem. I have one just alike... V1.1 also. I guess that is a PCB version. not a firmware. check either your card and your files.

I hope I can help as soon as the slow boat arrives and I get to solder my new M64 on my stock board.

row row row your boat gently down the stream. Merrily, merrily, merrily, merrily my 9x will scream! :P

Hi.
This thread gone quiet. Maybe Joao went to Fortugal...
I would like to ask what is the latest and correct audio files to use. I am using a file downloaded from here and i just found that if i assign timer1 to variable so i can have the remaining time on demand i get some erratic voice files. The countdown on the timer works ok.So it is either a bug or wrong files. Using 771 firmware.
Any way my radio with the voice works great and it is making some friend with $$$ radios very upset...

Joao is back prom Fortugal since yesterday very early. ;) OH NO, NOT HIM AGAIN...
I didn't know that there was a newer version of the fw out.. need to update my reading quickly.. :)

On my club the guys get jealous silently.. they don't say a word.. or when they say comes from very deep in their throats.. you know when you have to say something you don't really want to.. :D
But some of the nicest people there do agree that it is a very good help when flying..
I just can't go without voice anymore, now that I tried it.. it makes so much easier not having to look at the tx when you want to know something.. brilliant.. Thanks Mike..

The timers voice output is not implemented yet, I've just done the edits to put them in. I think there are some other things missing as well. I added a lot of things to handle the voice, and not all functions are quite complete. I'm always concerned regarding the amount of flash and RAM we have spare for all the additions, but I recently saved around 500 bytes of flash, and the next revision has around another 500 bytes of flash saved and 50 to 60 bytes of RAM saved as well. This should let me tidy up the voice and give me enough space to add the rotary encoder as well.

Thanks Mike. Just one thought.. (off topic) once we have the rotatry encoder the pot scroll would make no sense anymore.. would you save on flash removing it? the problem is all the different fw versions I would guess..

Thinking on that, it is only the FRSKY version that is really tight on flash, so maybe just one extra version with pot scroll replaced by rotary encoder would do. I was wondering about how to handle pot scroll. We'v already dropped templates from the FRSKY version, but I think we lost the ability to set the default channel order on the radio at the same time, it's in the templates menu.

yeah. I've noticed that but thought it was me not seeing well, hence I didn't say anything.. Is it possible to put it back? because when we create a new model it would come with the channels in the right order. I think it would help people that are just starting.. I wouldn't need it but if it is there I'd use it of course..

My quick guess... if you have a 9x frsky version, you are most probable NOT a novice on programming/understanding the mixing menu e channel order... so that shouldn't be a problem :)

about the rotary encoder. where it is connected, part from menu navigation, what functions would it have?

Common wire to +5 volts near the 5 volt regulator, the three signals via 3k9 resistors to the top three LCD data lines. I soldered these to the end of the three resistors that connect to the CPU pins, encoder to D7 and D6, switch to D5.
I'll try to do a quick 'how to' with the odd picture in the next few days.
Initially, just the menu system, but other possibilities are open for suggestions when we have it working. My encoders should arrive tomorrow.

I've done a quick test, it looks like the pot scroll may be using around 1000 bytes of flash, so I think one extra Frsky version with pot scroll removed and the encoder added would be good.

just another question, and off topic again, the encoder must be that one that also replaces the switche, or can it be any other?
What are you using?

Should work with any encoder, except the one from SkyNorth that switches 4 times between each 'click'. I'm testing with a separate encoder, but I think the multi function will be easier to fit rather than an extra encoder.

I'll try to release a new revision of er9x tomorrow or Saturday. It will use the 400-499 voice files for the voice variables, and also add the timers to the voice variable outputs.
I'm taking time to test it as it is also 820 bytes of flash smaller (using voice 400-499 actually saved some space as well). I want to make sure I haven't messed anything up.

Very nice to know that: if we move out the pot scroll we get 1000 bytes of flash :D

I have rotary encoders (with push-button) I just don't have a spare 9x for testing (just yet: slow boat issues) I'll get the things ready for testing as soon as possible.

Hey Mike
Quick question on the interface circuit. I've made one up (yet to install) and just wonder how the 'Busy' part of the cct works? I'm guessing TR1 grounds the PB7 signal to inhibit clocking when the Audio module is busy, but as PB7 is directly connected to the MCU (no resistor) I can't see how this works? Obviously it all works :) so I'm missing something, would you mind explaining?
Cheers.

Re: Audio (voice) - Stock 9X PCB

When clocking data PB7 is an output and overcomes the 2K2 resistor to TR1. When monitoring for BUSY, PB7 is set as an input, with an internal pullup resistor which overcomes the 100K to TR2. If bust is active TR1 goes low and pulls PB7 low through the 2K2 ressitor. While monitoring for busy, it is possible that a clock edge out from TR2 might occur. The software keeps a copy of the last value clocked into the '574, and makes sure this value is present on the data signals before and during checking for busy.

Thanks for that Mike. Completely overlooked considering PB7 as an input! All makes sense to my obviously limited understanding of the MCU operation :-)

Mike, on that version you said you're about to release with the numbers changing to the file numbers from 400 - 499, do you keep some of the other numbers, for example for the timer countdown? or do you use the new ones? thanks

Have you got 0047 and 0048 for degrees and degree in them? They appear to be missing from the ersky9x set.
