ArduVoice-9x Voice Module with Arduino for the 9x Radio

er9x is the best known firmware. It has a superb range of features and is well supported by the community. Well worth trying out.

I'm lazy :) So I use my mini drill machine with one of those round (ball shaped) metal bits, can't remember the name in English..

Right, success with reading & writing to the sd card....worked ok when I tried a different FTDI adapter. I'm very happy now that everything works ok, the only minor problem is that the radio doesn't always play the "Welcome message" when switching on. I haven't tried it enough to see if there's any pattern....at the moment it just seems to be random. Doesn't really matter but it would be good to understand why it happens ?

Hello, I build my own arduvoice.
I only testet it with trim switches but they aren't working. :(
I haven't removed the resistors until now(do I reallyhave to remoce them?)
Can you tell me where are battery voltage outputs for the modul wich power on by the power switch?
should a the "status" led blink when using the arduiino as this voice modul.
I flashed the combined version.
I used other diodes (1N4001) Do I even need them when using no ftdi adapter?.
Here are some pictures:

I hope you can help me.

I can't see the pictures..

Not sure about the 1N4001 as the voltage drop is bigger than the Schottky diodes..

At least on mine I had to remove the resistors on pins 27 and 28.
But before:
What processor does your radio have?
Go to Radio Setup / AudioHaptic menu and make sure that "Sound Mode" is set to "MegaSound"
Go to the Radio Setup / Hardware menu and make sure the "M' Sound Serial" option is active.

Hi I can't see the pictures either.....
If it helps, I have just made a voice module as shown in this thread, but I did not remove the resistors....it works ok.
I'm not certain, but think once the trim wires are moved to the voice module, the resistors are then open circuit, but I'm open to correction on that. I used the recommended diodes so can't comment on the other type.

the resistors connect also to a capacitor that connects to GND.

It might be that works with the resistors in place. Mine didn't :)

Thanks for your respond.
I have done the settings in er9x.
Should I try it without the diodes?

Do you have the grounds between all boards (radio included) connected? I can see you've left one of the GND pins on the arduino unsoldered.

The power LED on the arduino should not blink, it should stay on.. There are 2 LEDs on the arduino I believe.
Also, it is a bit difficult to see the connections on the pictures. The serial connections look correct, you have both halves of the radio connected when you test, right?
Does the voive module's speaker make any noise? Do the beeps play on the speaker when you move a trim? Or didn't you connect the old piezo speaker signal to the voice module? Did you connect the backlight? If so, does it work?

João

EDIT: You can also try without the diodes..
And also, as I said, mine didn't work until I have removed the resistors on the radio.

I tried with out the diodes and it isnt working.
Is it normal that the power led on the arduino gets brighter when you press the trimswitches?
I havent installed backlight etc to the modul atm I just have installed the trim swithes for testing:/

Hi, I have noticed that when trying to program a "Voice" alarm, using an "Audio" filetype, none of the files....Ring, Cheep, SciFi etc.... work at all.
All actual voice files from the SD card work ok, just not these sound effects which I have understand are built in to ER9X. Should they be working?

These sounds are still generated on the main board, you should have a wire connecting from the main board (or the back board) to the amplifier to make these sounds audible. The beeps, when you press buttons and trims, are handled the same way. Do you hear any of these?

Yes, I hear the beeps ok. I isolated the pcb track to the original beeper and connected it to the new voice board.
This has reminded me that I'm not certain I've got the correct value of capacitor C7....I slipped up with the order for components and had to source this particular capacitor from old stock....could this be the problem?
As stated, I hear beeps but no "sound effects" at all!

That is weird, because sound effects are beeps.. :)

Please go to "Radio Setup / AudioHaptic" menu. What do you have selected on "Beeper" and "Sound Mode" ??

I realised that at the time I was trying to setup the audio alarms, I had "beeper" set to "Quiet".....that's where I was going wrong.....once I set it differently, everything then worked ok. Another case of "Operator error" 🙄
Thanks to both of you for helping sort out his out !

Hello, another question please....is it supposed to be possible to upload new voice files to the SD card, using the serial adapter ?
If it is, I haven't figured out how to yet, I have to take the SD card out of the radio each time.
I can access the "models" on the SD card using Epee, but thats all.

Thanks Don

Yes you can, It is the same procedure as with the models. start the radio as you normally do to connect via serial to the PC, start the serial window, click "Browse", select the file(s) you want to send to the Card, click "Send" at the bottom.
Be aware that many files will take longer to send. This is not a fast process :) But it can be done.

Yes, that works !!!
I'd spent ages trying to figure it out but hadn't just grasped the concept. I've got a Taranis (OpenTx), a 9x with 9xtreme (Ersky9x) and this 9X (Er9x) with the voice mod and each requires something a bit different....I was getting a bit confused but its all sorted now.
I'd be out flying but its windy & raining, hence why I'm messing about making voice files !
Thanks once again.

Try it. For er9x you will have to also write the numbered file names.
For the 9xtreme radio you can use the phrase file I have attached here, and you can add your own files. Not much work for you :)

Download the TTSAutomate tool I've linked above ;) Install it (for windows only), open it, load the file I have attached to my last post, select the directory to save the voice files, select a voice, click on the "GO" button at the bottom, and let the tool make its magic :)
