Er9x NEW User's Manual
Er9x NEW User's Manual
Major Revision of Er9x Manual Released
It’s taken us a while, but the totally new 2015 Edition of the Er9x Manual is now available. This is a complete overhaul of the documentation that not only reflects important improvements in the firmware, but provides much fuller explanations of the features and many detailed programming examples. It’s a comprehensive manual that covers every option and command.
The manual will be of assistance to anyone who wants to get the most out of a 9x or 9XR transmitter equipped with genuine Er9x firmware. Note that the manual does not cover the stock firmware provided with the 9x transmitter, or the modified version of Er9x that is included with the 9XR. To get maximum benefit, we recommend upgrading your firmware to the latest version of Er9x.
The manual also has a lot to offer to people using Ersky9x firmware in a 9XR Pro or 9x with a Sky board, as the two firmwares are now very close in their structure and capabilities.
The credit for the major improvements in recent versions of the firmware goes entirely to Mike Blandford, who has been fully responsible for Er9x since 2012. Mike, of course, built on the work of Erazz and other pioneers of open source RC firmware.
We hope the new manual will help modellers understand and apply this amazingly powerful and flexible software for years to come.
João
and
Nigel (Daedalus66)
EDIT: This manual is up to date with the latest version of Er9x.. And we intend to keep it like that
Below you find the manual in Russian. "Stasys", a member from the Russian Forum did the translation.

Re: Er9x NEW User's Manual
Thanks to João for the chance to contribute to this absorbing project. And to Mike for his support, but most of all for making the manual necessary by his steady stream of innovations and improvements to the firmware.
By the way, the manual obviously isn't a "Quick Guide to Er9x" or "Er9x for Dummies" (but then anyone who wants to use this firmware is no dummy!). Rather, it's an attempt to provide the definitive guide to Er9x ("Everything you always wanted to know about Er9x but were afraid to ask"). We did try hard to make it as clear and accessible as possible, but there's a lot to absorb. You don't, however, need to do it all at once.
That leaves lots of room for a wide variety of beginners' guides. Fortunately, we are already well served by both written and video material of that sort. It just takes a bit of searching on the forums and across the Web to find them. Maybe some of you would like to update the material, now that the Manual is available.

Absolutely proffessional! Thank you Jhsa, Nigel and Mike.
Re: Er9x NEW User's Manual
I just read through the whole manual and really appreciate the time it took to put this all together. I have been playing with opentx on my flysky for a couple of weeks, but after reading the manual, I think I am going to switch to Er9x. Thank you.

Re: Er9x NEW User's Manual
This is wonderful news. I just now found out
I have been using ER for some time right now, and I would call myself still an avid student.
But with the spring (finally) come a renewed determination to get a broader understanding.
I will be reading over the revised manual with grat interest!
As the FW evolves I hope that we the end users ultimately financially support this truly wonderful open source project. I am currently up for a substantial donation, I owe you a good one.
Back in 2011 I would call ER my first foray into hacking, it was at the dawn of my RC addiction.
I have never regretted being hooked on this drug.
I made the complete modification to my radio:
1. The backlight kit and LiFe batt
2. The Smartie Parts solderless programming board
3. I installed also the TelemetrEZ or TEZ for short
I installed the ER9X FW and have never looked back.
Though I am still a little shaky, it is only because I fly 6 Multirotors and two Fixed wing, and I don't get enough exercise on my programming skills.
In fact I now have the decision to make because I fly a big hex w/Arducopter APM 2.6 and smaller aerial photo rig running Pixhawk with FrSky Rx's . So I have an interesting situation given the choices of FW
I have never had enough money for an expensive big name RC transmitter!!
ER,the 9X Radio has payed dividends regularly!
Congrats on the new FW and Manual and Best Regards!!
Chris

Re: Er9x NEW User's Manual
JHSA and other contributors:
I had been struggling with a Turnigy 9xR and 9x that would not "talk" through the buddy box connection. I stumbled over the PPMSIM parameter in the 9XR menuing system, which was not documented in the manual I downloaded for the stock firmware from HobbyKing, and eventually located some discussion from RCForums which explained the problem.
I documented my problem and the solution in the HK Forum (link below)
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/foru ... ?TID=64423
So I was very anxious to download the new ER9x manual for 2015, and sure enough, the discussion there (page 19) clearly describes how this was an issue, and how to fix it.
I'm sure as I carefully read the rest of this large manual, I will find similar revelations that you have taken the time, and effort to discover, and fully document.
You guys personify the very best of those in our great hobby. From the depths of my heart, and also from my wallet, I thank you.

Re: Er9x NEW User's Manual
Hello João,
Nice work with this new manual!
Do you know if there is any project going on to translate the new er9x manual in other languages besides English and Russian?
I'm volunteering to help out translating it in French. Is there a way to get access to the original word document to start from?
Would it not make sense to have it in the SVN repository as well (there are several documentations already there but I don't find this new one...)?
Thank you,
Guillaume

Joao and Nigel.
Well done both of you. Your manual is a shining example of what a manual should be in a world where manuals are either non-existent, incomplete and/or poorly written.

Re: Er9x NEW User's Manual
I am trying to reverse my right stick.. I can do it in older firmware but not this one?..it will not allow me to highlight the stick diagram?...am i missing something??....
Stick Reverse
If the stock stick assemblies are replaced with a different type (such as Taranis or Aurora 9 gimbals),
one or more stick axes may work in directions opposite to the associated trims. The Stick Reverse
function is provided purely to correct this situation. To use it, highlight the stick diagram. Pressing
[LEFT] or [RIGHT] will then cycle through the 16 different possibilities, with reversed sticks shown on
a dark background. The picture above shows “Rud” and “Ele” sticks reversed.
To return to the normal state with no sticks reversed, press [LEFT] repeatedly. Use this feature ONLY
to correct sticks that are electrically reversed. Do NOT use it to reverse control directions.

Re: Er9x NEW User's Manual
It is 'protected' from accidental changes like the hardware menu. Just enable the hardware menu, then you will be able to do the editing (hold the left horizontal trim to the left at power on).

Re: Er9x NEW User's Manual
I would like to suggest to add to the manual that to get beeper alarm without voice module is necessary to choose Haptic modes. I spent quite some time to figure it out!
Re: Er9x NEW User's Manual
That should not be necessary.. You should only have to select:
Sound Mode - "Beeper" or "PiSpkr"
Beeper Mode- Any option except "Quiet"

It's all set but there is no any sound if Haptic stays --------- (off)
Re: Er9x NEW User's Manual
Then better wait for Mike's opinion on this subject.. I think it shouldn't be necessary to set the haptic..

Re: Er9x NEW User's Manual
I have one more question I didn't find in the manual:
What happens to FRSky DJT module alarms for RSSI and Battery Voltage after flashing radio with er9xProv821g?
Will they act as before?

Re: Er9x NEW User's Manual
I think they were removed.
It doesn't make sense having them as the radio itself can manage the alarms, and in a much better way..

Re: Er9x NEW User's Manual
Can radio FW somehow change that in the external module? How does it exactly work?
Re: Er9x NEW User's Manual
You don't need the external module to beep with alarms.. The radio can do that much better.. or am I not understanding what you want to do?
As i said, i believe Er9x doesn't have the ability to change the external module's alarms anymore. And it doesn't need to as the radio has a better alarm system.

Re: Er9x NEW User's Manual
The RSSI alarms are still present for the DJT, set on the second 'page' of the telemetry menu.
The A1/A2 alarms are set to zero as er9x supports 'better' ways of generating alarms.
Also, for the Mega64 processor, removing the A1/A2 alarms has saved quite a lot of flash memory that is then used for other things.
Mike.
