TH9 RF Data Specs.. where can I find?

er9x is the best known firmware. It has a superb range of features and is well supported by the community. Well worth trying out.

TH9 RF Data Specs.. where can I find?

Post by agusta600gt »

a friend of mine asked me some data specs.

like what is the stepping ? 512...2048 ??
how many frequency does it use...3-4-14 ?

is there a full data sheet available some where ? (once flashed )

thanks

wouldn't that all rely on what tx module you are using?

the stock V2 module hops across the entire ISM band , if I recall. I watched it on my usbview spectrum analyzer for a bit. I can take some screenshots if you wish.

I can do the same at work on Wednesday on a R&S FFT Spectrum Analyzer, have done it before, but did not save them. I did not have my TX with me today. It hops on the entire band, unless in binding mode.

Spectrum use of 9x-v2 tx and DX4e DSM2 tx

Post by rperkins »

Put together a quick 3 minute screencast. Shows the 9x in binding mode and regular mode. Also added a Spektrum DX4e in DSM2 mode. Cant seem to embed the video so here is a link. http://youtu.be/-LX-Hk9vAzg

Here is a screenshot of what I think you wanted to see. The spectrum use of the turnigy 9x-v2 tx.

thanks a lot...we really see that its taking the whole range with dsm...

Now is it the same with frsky accst tx module ?

thanks

Sorry. I know nothing about the frsky. Someone else will have to chime in.

I'm confused. Bruce from RCModelReviews reviewed and tested spektrum (DSM2) and found out that it was only using 2 frequencies..

Part 2

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=fv ... w1heqMyo9w

And here is the frsky review

In my opinion frsky is 100 times better than spektrum. DSMX aparently is an acceptable system though

While the screencast makes it clear I agree my post was confusing. I updated the title and post . Thanks for pointing it out.

With regard to DSMX: the DX4e supports it but I dont own a dsmx reciever so the dx4e reverts to dsm2. Hence i couldnt show the spectrum use of dsmx.

So as promised some detailed plots from the stock modules (I have both original from HK and frysky with the antenna on the module)
Results from both are identical (who would have guessed ? )

From what I have captured some answers to your Questions
How many Frequencies, well the hopping use 16 Frequencies, with a spacing of 5MHz between them. It starts at 2,40142GHz and each Carrier is 1MHz.
Hopping is very Random from my observations.
Binding signal is on 2,4004875GHz and is slightly wider than the hopping, using a span of 1,5MHz
Binding initiates immediately when power is turned on, and continues until power off (unlike normal operation where splash screen and switch errors needs to clear)
Transmission in working mode only starts after splash screen and switch warnings are cleared.

I have taken some screenshots of the plots I have made, and tried to name them with some type of description. I have added them to a zip file and attached them all. I only link some here. In the below images you can see I had no external 2,4 signals before I started. Bind is done slightly lower than the normal operation and in the 3 Picture the bind signal is also shown. The last image shows the space between any of the hopping carriers.

Once I get my FrSky module I will do exactly the same test on it, 1st with stock settings and then with the nice firmware from erazz posted elsewhere in the forum.
I do not have any other modules to check or test, but if you want something tested feel free to ask, I may consider getting it for a test, or will accept donations for test purposes :D

Any Questions Feel free to ask.

Well glad at least someone likes the plots.

It's my day-job :D

I am also fairly proud to say I have written the software used to make the plots using GPIB connections to the R&S FSP. It is used on a daily basis by us. RF used to be one of my hobbies, I turned it into a job, and that makes my job enjoyable and rewarding on most days.

Unfortunately I did not yet add a feature where I can capture a video stream, but I am working on this. They say a picture tells a thousand words ...guess a video may tell more :)

Ok so here is the FrSky DHT plots as promised before. You can get all in the Zip file attached.

So the quick breakdown like before I started with a clean environment. I did not save it this time, but it was the same as before.
How many Frequencies ...interesting MANY more than stock, 47 (yes you can count them if you want)
This one starts on 2,40395GHz and has carriers of 500KHz with spacing of 1,5 MHz
Hopping is more sequencial than stock module and appears to be sweeping rather than random hopping.
Binding signal consists of two carriers of 50KHz at 2,40393GHz and 2,40398GHz
Contrary to stock module, this one starts transmitting right at power on both for binding and normal operation.
When switched to "RangeCheck" power is dropped to 1/10th of normal power.
Telemetry data comes back on the same Frequency range, but less frequent as can bee seen by the plots marked at TelemetryTXLowPower* (for those plots I had to switch to Range check and have the TX close for the link to stay up, so you can see some lower peaks from the TX on those)
Now some plots, the rest can be seen in the zip file
Enjoy

That makes it even cooler !

I was wondering:
In the 9x graphs it looks like the frequency is varying within each of the 14 or so major transmission points. In the graph for the frsky DHT it does not show that. So is the 9x tx sub hopping within each major point, or is that just a function of how the graph is generated ? I guess it boils down to I dont know what '1 AP CLRWR' in the legend means.

Here is your graph of the 9x tx @ 10mhz span. The blue line is what I am asking about
Image

Here is your graph of the frsky DHT @ 5mhz span. The blue line is different.
Image

Thanks for all the graphs. i dig it.

ps:
I got a corona radio from HK (ct8j) . Dont even know why I got it. Well it fits in the 9x :) I think I was filling up my shipping weight allowance :) I plugged it in to the 9x but didnt get anything out of it nor did it light up. I think the wire from the stock antenna was keeping it from making connection. got a radio tore down now, removed fixed antenna wire. can do a basic spectrum analysis on this tx if anyone is interested.

Re: TH9 RF Data Specs.. where can I find?

Post by GrootWitbaas »

on the second plot the TX is already switched off so you wont see the carriers at that time, but also because it use many more channels to hop, it won't show so fast, and also the carrier is half the size (1MHz compared to 500KHz). The stock module also hops or "sweep" way faster. That said, I have noticed it does sort off drift inside the carrier, I can be due to settings on the meter, because RBW of 300KHz compared to 100KHz makes a huge difference on a low span, and I see now I had VBW on 1KHz, should have it down on the same settings ...well I am in the office tomorrow, hope it is quiet the whole day ...today when I finished the plots every thing that could happen did happen so I did not have time to check every thing a second time like I normally do.

One thing is based on the plots and what I have seen, I will feel more comfortable flying with the DHT ....so if any one is in need of some stock modules let me know :)

Next up I want to see if I can flash the PXX on them and see .... but 1st I will redo todays measurements with the same settings as before.

Thanks for the reply. I didnt mean go make more work for you ;) i had been curious about it after your first set of data. When it was different on the second set, i just had to inquire.
