er9x is the best known firmware. It has a superb range of features and is well supported by the community. Well worth trying out.

Help with Turnigy iA8 AFHDS2A receiver binding

Post by wombat67 »

Hey All

Sorry if I missed the memo on this one. I have searched and read most posts on topic but I still can not get the new 9X with the AFHDS(2A??) module and iA8 receiver to play ball. The iA8 receiver does say AFHDS2A.

So I've got a brand new 9X, flashed it right away to er9x (did download the original firmware first but NOT the eeprom). Flashed to latest version from er9x.com. Er9x.com says latest version is 821 but radio says no - it's 820. Regardless, tried PPM 8CH with polarity at neg (and at pos). Binding the usual Turnigy way, bind plug in - power receiver - turn on radio with bind button on module depressed. At first everything seems OK the led on the receiver stops flashing and goes solid on. However, after removing bind plug and restarting the receiver starts flashing again and no bind. Tried the AFHDS2A option on the MULTI with same result. In fact this occurred with just about every protocol option set I tried - led on receiver would go solid indicating it bound but on restart nada - back to flashing.

Tried to go back to factory firmware to test the receiver actually does bind but just got a blank screen and a screaming 9X. I suspect that this is because I only flashed back the firmware and did not also include the eeprom. Question - I did see links to factory firmware and eeprom but they were from like years ago, will they work with the newer 9X?? I'd like to go back to factory to test receiver - even though I shouldn't have to.

Clearly there is there something I am missing?? All advice appreciated.

Cheers

Thanks for the link
However, I'm starting to think issue is with receiver and want to know if anyone else has experienced the following...
As above the receiver says it has bound by the led going solid. Now after a bt more investigation I have found that yes the receiver DOES bind with er9x and the suggested PPM with neg polarity. If I remove the bind plug after binding I can control servos and even my regular control boards. If I turn off the radio the receiver will do a slow flash and when I turn back on the radio the receiver led will go solid again and everything works as it should.

HOWEVER, if i power off the receiver after binding this is when the binding is lost. So it seems to me that the radio, module and er9x are all doing their job but the receiver is letting the side down by forgetting everything on power off.

I've not encountered this before, modded many many older 9X's could probably do it in my sleep but this is my first time with the new receiver. And it would be just my luck to start off with a bung receiver.

Cheers

Don't you have another one you can try?
I do find this AFHDS2A stuff very weird. Something I will try to stay away from :)

Nope to another receiver - and HK don't even seem to stock iA8 receivers. Seems I'll have to get an i6A instead. It's a radio for someone else. I too would stay away but what can you do when someone isn't up to spending enough for decent gear.

Cheers

Ps - a quick edit - For anyone following this tale of woe. Reverted back to the stock firmware and the exact same situation happens. Receiver will bind but will lose everything once the receiver is powered off.

Then, it seems either the module or the receiver is bad..
I think that person would be better with a multiprotocol module and a few frsky receivers, and still be able to fly with the i6A or other receivers..
