Everything seems to work as far as i can tell.
Thanks !!

Hello,
I have a turnigy 9x and want to get the frsky r9m. I want to fly it at 1W with the new eu firmware at 868mhz. I need to have the rssi at my OSD. Will it work? Maybe i will put opentx on the turnigy 9x. Thanks!

Re: FRSKY R9M compatibility?
If you want telemetry on the radio, you have to do the telemetry mod to it.
To get 1W (if that is legal in your country), you will need to flash the module and receiver with the flex firmware.
I understand that openTx is no longer being updated for the AVR based radios so it may well not support the R9M module.

Re: FRSKY R9M compatibility?
Hey guys... Cant be thankful enough for the info i have found here... It worked with no issues what so ever.. Now i'm stuck on the telemetry... witch telemetry mode should i do to get it working with the mbtx-128 HEX file?? To be honest i really want to use rs232<->ttl converter and connect it to the Rx and Tx pins on the back of the R9M module and that connect to the micro controller because i dont want to cut traces or do things like that... Can i move the two switches THR and AIL from the Hardware tab and connect it to where the switches was?
Or I am just missing something and i event not sure why i want to make the telemetry to work.... in betaflight managed to get the rssi value in the OSD
I'm about to try just now to use my flight controller to flash the R9M module using serial serial passthrough i managed to flash my r9mm receiver witch has inverted S port... for the R9M module gonna just try with a simple transistor signal inverter...... I hope it would work :D:D I'm gonna say what happed

Re: FRSKY R9M compatibility?
You need to do the "telemetry mod" (move the 2 switches to other processor pins) anyway.
The R9M module outputs the SPort telemetry data on the bottom pin of the module connector (inverted serial, logic level). All you need to do then is connect, via an inverter, that pin to the appropriate processor pin. This signal is the old antenna connector on the back board. The inverter may be a simple transistor inverter.

Re: FRSKY R9M compatibility?
er9x (recent test version) supports the R9M. You need the same mods for telemetry as needed for a XJT module.

Re: FRSKY R9M compatibility?
Hi i have flash the TH9X with the er9xV2firmware but i don´t can bind the R9M with the R9 Mini.
I don´t know what im doing wrong.
Prtotocol i have Setup PPM the switch on the R9M are on.
When i bush the Function Button on the R9M an R9 mini the go in to the binding mode but nothing habbent.
When i Power of and on are no connection. The don´t whant do bind.
It´s possible that are wrong Frimware on the R9M an R9?
How i can flash them on the R9M with the Th9x?
I need the SBUS Protocoll on the reciever.

Re: FRSKY R9M compatibility?
Set the protocol to "XJT" and the type to "R9M", then try binding using the bind option in the menu.

Re: FRSKY R9M compatibility?
Do both the R9M and the R9mini have FCC firmware or EU (LBT) firmware?
EU usually have a sticker on them.

Re: FRSKY R9M compatibility?
I don't have a R9mini, just a R9.
When binding the LEDS on the R9 both come on solid, then when the Tx is put into binding mode, the red LED starts flickering.
Then you power the receive off and back on and take the Tx out of binding, then you should get control working.
I just tested this on a 9x with a M64 processor, although I currently have er9xV1 on it, er9xV2 should behave the same.

Re: FRSKY R9M compatibility?
It's possible that are a firmware version issues? I don't think that are the flex firmware on the TX. Can i flash a other firmware version on the TX with the 9x or PC? On the R9 i can flash trough the FC.

Re: FRSKY R9M compatibility?
There have been a number of firmware releases for both devices.
The 9X is unable to update the R9M.
To update the R9M from a PC you need either a STK device, a USB to SPort device or a FrUSB3 device with a SPC adapter.
If you don't have one of these, you could try updating the R9mini with the possible firmware versions to see if one works with the R9M firmware you currently have.

Re: FRSKY R9M compatibility?
Thanks MikeB for your help bud i´m not able to flash the R9 mini. It whont work. I have try this procedure https://oscarliang.com/flash-frsky-rx-fc-passthrough/
Bud FRSKY tool dosn´t see the com port from the FC. I have try it over a FTDI and a diode between RX and TX and connect it on the S.Port but no success.
What i´m diong wrong? I´m to stupid to bring them do live?

Are you applying power to the receiver at the correct moment?

Re: FRSKY R9M compatibility?
Hi Mike,
I upgraded my Turnigy 9x from chip atmega64 to atmega128 and did mod XJT Telemetry. I use R9M module and Rx R9 Slim, they are bound and work but I can't see Telemetry info while using firmware mbtx-128. I changed to firmware mbtx-frsky then I can see Rx RSSI only but I can't set Failsafe like firmware mbtx-128.
Could you tell me what I have to do to see all telemetry info on Tx screen and set failsafe for Rx?
I am looking forward you reply, thank you in advance,
PS: sorry for my bad English.

Re: FRSKY R9M compatibility?
Use mbtx-128, and go into the hardware directory and tick the box for "FrSky mod done". To enable the hardware directory, power on holding the left horizontal trim to the left.

Thank you so much for your support Mike,
Now I can see telemetry info on Tx screen with firmware mbtx-128 but I don't know why it just show RSSI, not TSSI (RSSI=100, SWR=0). This issue cause module R9M setting or Tx setting?

Re: FRSKY R9M compatibility?
Modules released after the DJT do not provide TSSI anymore.

Update for my problem. I have flashed now the new Firmware. Now the binding works well.
Re: FRSKY R9M compatibility?
Hi all,
Could you tell me why RSSI info shows after 5 minutes (even more) Tx and Rx working?
Tx: Turnigy 9x, XJT Telemetry mod, chip atmega128
Module & Rx: R9M & R9 Slim
Firmware: mbtx-128
Config: Protocol: XJT, R9M, 16CH, 100mW; Telemetry: FrSky

Re: FRSKY R9M compatibility?
Hi,
I don't see the RSSI signal on the OSD. Can i made the Telemetry mod when i use the R9M?
@tienbx how you have made the Atmel64 to Atmel 128 mod? You have desolder the Amtel64 and Soldered the 128? It will work?

Re: FRSKY R9M compatibility?
RSSI for the OSD is normally provided by the receiver itself, the radio doesn't have anything to do with it.
Re: FRSKY R9M compatibility?
Hi,
is there er9x version on M64, that supports R9M with Flex firmware? I understand that the latest version is a mtbx5a, but not support Flex?
