SPort device updating

openTx has introduced a range of new features, ideas and bling. It is fast becoming the firmware of choice for many users. openTx will run on ALL current hardware platforms, including the gruvin9x and sky9x boards. Work has already started to support the new FrSky X9D radio!

hello mike , I tried to flash the XJT module from 9XR pro with ER9X 218 and I can't do it :

Booting in maintenance mod , select update sport.
Powering off
select my firmware and confirm
waiting bar a finding Device
Powering On
Nothing happen , not event a bip for the module .
Even tried by disconnecting module and put back.

what do I do wrong ?
Tring to update XJT then XSR an LBT firmware ( XSR won't bind for now , don't know which firmware it is)

Thanks

When and where did you get the XJT module. I believe recent European units are 'locked' and cannot be updated.

Do you think it would change something if I flash my 9XR with open TX instead of Ersky9x r218 ?

How are you connecting the XJT to the radio and powering it?

Unlikely that openTx will perform any differently.

Yes I am powering it . I followed every steps of this : http://thrustworx.com/frsky-xjt-firmwar ... y-9xr-pro/

The LED on the XJT is Red Fix. But the 9XR says "finding device" without moving.

Apparently , my XJT is an EU from end 2015 , beginning 2016 . It may be locked , but i'm am Trying to update the last LBT firm ( tried with old versions too)

When you switch off the radio part way through this operation, does the LED on the XJT go off?

Also, if you use the XJT normally, with the protocol set to PXX, do you see a value for SWR? You may need to wrap your hand round the antenna to cause the SWR to read a non-zero value.

Yes the led goes off when a switch 9XR off , then goes red fix when powering back ON.

This is my setting : https://goo.gl/photos/6ChXYMC434kv4F8b6
IDK if I use it normally ^^ . SWR ? how do you check it ?
I tried it with hand wrapped , but nothing move, still searching for device.

I also tried to flash my XSR with http://thrustworx.com/frsky-x-series-re ... ete-guide/
Not powering it with FTDI USB but with my 5v rail .
But 9XR does the same thing , just nothing move frome finding device ??!!

EDIT : we are OK that signal ( Sport) wire on 9XR is N°5 :

To test the SWR, just power the radio on normally, with the XJT plugged in. Then press DOWN LONG to get to the telemetry screens. Use LEFT and/or RIGHT to select a screen where the SWR value is displayed.
Is it always zero, even if you wrap your hand around the antenna.
The SPort wire is where you describe it.

It may be worth flashing the radio with the latest test version of ersky9x from here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4676#p65894. THis may help test things out as there is some debug code in it.

Yes SWR it's always 0 . When I wrap it with a metal tube , it beeps , but swr is still 0
When I create a new profil/SETUP SWR seems to work propely ( values change) but after a restart , SWR=0 ??

Ok I will try R219t

thanks mike for your help

EDIT : XJT has been made on 2015-09-19 ( written on it... )

EDIT2 : i'm on BL V2.1 and I updated ERsky to r219 of 13th august . But nothing change. And still the only way to see a value on SWR is when I create or change of model.

OK, power on normally, then use UP LONG, then RIGHT a few times to get to the DEBUG menu. The bottom line shows "TelRxCount" with two numbers after it. The first number is a count of the number of telemetry bytes received. This should be counting all the time with the XJT plugged in.

No it was not on my 1rst config ( bind with a X4RSB) , TelRXcount 0000 0101
BUT : when i'm changing model , it count . even after a reboot , SWR =0 but telrx counting. I have no receptor bind with this model.

Led of XJT is fix red and green flashing.

Make sure all models have the protocol set to PXX, a newly created model will default to PPM.
Also check you have D16 set.
Are you using the BIND option in the menu to bind? If so, when you select this, does the RED LED on the XJT start flashing and the module start beeping?

Yes I deleted all model ; just letting 3 all in PPX D16.
I tried binding with XJT button and by slecting BIND , Yes module bip and vibrate , led flash.

Still won't bind. FW Won't flash either :(

I was wondering : Can the TX lipo has anything to do with this problem ? I am using a 3S lipo (s*** brand) , Tx says 11.2V when I was trying to flash.
(I may be totally wrong , As I tried to flash XSR by powering it on 5V from FC )

Receivers are rated for 10V max, you should use the original battery.

Flashing with external power will not work as the timing is critical, the radio powers the receiver on right when needed.

? There was no original battery with the turnigy 9xr , hobbyking says lipo 3S for this radio ?

When I tried flashing XJT , it was of course powered by the radio, but nothing changed, Device was not found.

I can't find someone with the same problem than me.. I really don't understand. I think I will try a complete erase of the 9XR , maybe a change a setting that **** the flashing portocle on Sport.

There should be no setting involved in that function.
The radio could have a hardware issue that prevents it from sending data on the smart port.

Never, AFAIK the smart port update is currently the only function that uses data out. You could look for output with an oscilloscope or a serial -> USB adapter.

Impossible to do it with arduino so I will get a true FTDI232 chip to do it ot buy a frsky cable.

Last chance , I saw that telemetry was COM 2 so i corrected id , maybe a paramater is still wrong and prevent to flash anything on Sport ?
Can you check one last time please ?

Re: SPort device updating

Post by MikeB »

I've just posted a specific test version of the ersky9x for the 9XR-PRO on the test versions thread called "ersky9xr_romSpTest.bin".
On power up, this drives out a signal on the SPort pin, and checks it is changing by reading the SPort input. If the test fails, you should get an Alert saying "SPort Output Self Test Failure".
Due to the hardware design, I can't actually test for a failure, but I can see the signal for this test on my 'scope.

If you had telemetry on COM2, this might explain why the debug TelRxCount value wasn't counting. Have another check for that please.

I'm sorry to bother you again , but I flash the test rom , but it do nothing when I powered it up (I mean that no pop up, it's a normal power up , with loading screen , then display my normal telemetry screen of my model)
I went to telemetry but I lost voltage ( heard a "reboot") and then come back to 11v. But nothing more. What I have to to to run the test ?

Thanks
