Sound Server for Taranis

Post by Rob Thomson »

Right guys...

Finally had some time to do this.

This is a very simple beta system - but it does seem to work.

http://212.59.78.77/taranis-sounds-beta1/index.php

Have a play and let me know if any problems exist.

Note. Please dont bomb me we feature requests. Time is rather tight at present, so I cant guarantee to get to them!!

Not just Taranis since it generates .wav files.

True... But my code does not yet do the different bit rate that us used for sky9x.

Although.... It may well work with the higher bit rate! I have not tested it!

Rob,

Very convenient, thank you! I do have to say that many of the voices are strange for pronunciation, inflection, etc., however.

My little test to decide which voices I use is to write these 2 words. "Aileron Rate". Many of the voices can't say it right.

Sometimes you need to get the words written phonetically.

Like...

Open tea ex! Etc...

Experiment. Sometimes you need commas in to make a pause etc...

Oh... Lots of the voices are not good!
Best ones are. Sapi 5 ones.

Once I have time again I will clean up and extend the system.

Hi Rob
Is there an option to run this on the Taranis?
So instead of writing the file name in the mix, we will write the actual text in the mix, and the Taranis will generate the wav files on startup.

No chance.

Each voice file is in the region of 500mb, and requires windows sapi audio to be generated.

Last time I checked, Taranis did not run that sort of hardware :-)

Yeah that is what I use ;) but I could never make that code thing work :) I downloaded a plugin for firefox called 'Unplug'.
Then after inserting the text and click listen, I just right click near the play button like you do on your video, choose 'Unplug' from the menu, one new little window will open. You just click on the little arrow next to "download", and select to open on a new tab or window. When it opens the file will play. Then you just right click on the player to save as mp3. Simple and no messing with code :) thank you for your video though as it gave me the inspiration to do it this way ;) try it.
And the acapela voices are the best around. I will have yet to find better..

Oh...

The voices we have on the system are voices that I have personally purchased. They cost around $35 each.

If anyone is wanting a custom voice /accent added...

Here is a list: http://www.nextup.com/acapela.html of some that are around the same price.

I am happy to get these voices installed, but would need 'donation' to cover the purchase cost!!
