Feature request fail-safe mem

openTx has introduced a range of new features, ideas and bling. It is fast becoming the firmware of choice for many users. openTx will run on ALL current hardware platforms, including the gruvin9x and sky9x boards. Work has already started to support the new FrSky X9D radio!

Feature request fail-safe mem

Post by janekx »

Hi,
I got idea about this feature when will setup failsafe in short time.
The best way how to setup failsafe is try with aircraft the setting and remember it and then simulate it on the ground and program it to RX.

This feature should help memory the channel values when fly and then simulate it on the ground.

There can be the function to store actual values and then play them to RX. I thing that this is not hard to program and not takes much space in code.

Thanks

Janekx

If I can't hold all of the controls who's failsafe I need to set at the same time, then I just program temporary mixers to hold each channel position. Flip the switch I designated then press the Rx button. Once I know it worked I remove the temporary mixers so I don't accidentally trigger it during flight.

You could store this values in GVars ;)

Yes but developers also have a real life and want to fly a little bit ;)
There is a whole page for the enhancements: https://code.google.com/p/opentx/issues/list
But I can't promise anything as I have too little spare time ...

I don't know what failsafe means for you: safe for the plane or safe for the people ?

If safe for the people there are not so many things to be set:
engine off
full elevator
full rudder
maybe a little of ailerons

IE the plane should stop and go in spin in place....

That is safe... if you set the plane in such a way there is not so much need of the feature you are requesting...

BTW: any other setting is wrong for sure, as you cannot know, in advance, plane status when you enter in fail safe.

I would like to trim a plain to get soft circles and slowly decrease alt. In this case I must remember the stick positions and then set it on ground. Set stickers and have no 3rd hand to pust RX learn button and my sticker setting must not be the same as i remember and tested by fly.

Hi janekx,
there are at least two different ways how to achieve this.
You can use spare mixes to make memory function: channel copying its value to itself.
Or the best for this are Gvars, that are designed as the memory, you can store stick values by Custom Function "Adjust GVx [Rud|Ele|Thr|Ail]"
I think a special menu item is out of concept to keep the basic menus simple as possible. It can be perfect task for LUA script in the near future on your taranis. :)

Martin when i wrote this i didnt have Taranis and opentx not include Global vars on T9X. By the way this function came handy for biginers i think...

Sorry, but what you are asking is impossible to be done, it's not software.... it's aerodynamics...

As you cannot know the asset of the plane when you enter fail safe, you cannot know how to enter in what you call soft circles.
That means that the plane in such a condition can do several hundred meters, depending on the altitude, before reaching ground.

Again: that is not safe.
Fail safe should be safe for people and not for plane.

A few models may return to sfBle circles. Not many.

If I where to do this, I would just use a temporary flight phase. :)

Maybe if you put a flight controller on the plane with a return to home feature. the plane will fly circles over the starting point. I've seen this. not sure about bringing it down though..

You forget the modeling origins.

Free flight models are designed to fly stable circles on their own.

Some even from high power launches.

As I said... some models will :)
