Frsky hub and generic GPS ?
Frsky hub and generic GPS ?
Hi everyone,
sometimes you cannot see the wood for the trees. Now I have the frsky hub, and the th9x with open9x.
Can I connect a generic type GPS to the frskyhub to have the data displayed by open9x on my transmitter?
Or do I really need no buy the frsky gps module for this?
TIA
Peter

Re: Frsky hub and generic GPS ?
I am afraid you have to buy the FrSky GPS!
Or a full replacement board like the Halcyon, but I still haven't received mine

Bertrand, Max sent me the Halcyon board a while ago - but only partly populated. Now I have to find out what is missing (he could not remember) - as I asked him to leave out the gps and bmp085 (now I know it was a mistake). The BMP085 is on its way I hope (china), and then I'll see if I can get it to work.
I also told Rob I would take a fully populated Halcyon...

You don't state how you get the telemetry data into the radio.DHDSP wrote:Hi everyone,

Based on the NMEA version of ER9X, I have built a version that can read the native datastream of the FrySky Sensor Hub and it works with a normal GPS module (from a GM210 GPS mouse).
Have a look into the Wiki
http://openrcforums.com/wiki/index.php/ ... TX_display
regarding the FrySky Sensor Hub.
I updated the description already, but the code is not yet released.

Re: Frsky hub and generic GPS ?
I successfully connected a generic GPS module to a frsky hub, no problem. Just make sure it's set to send its data at 9600baud, 2Hz is fine.
Re: Frsky hub and generic GPS ?
i have a NOVA OSD system which has a GPS module. would be nice to use the same module on either one. ONe thing for sure, it won't be plug and play, the Nova GPS has 5 wires connector while the Frysky hub has a 4 wire connector to GPS.
Is there a way to check if this is possible to do? (NOVA has a 10Hz GPS sensor).

Re: Frsky hub and generic GPS ?
So, without any mods, simply connect to the frsky hub , and open9x shows the info?Kilrah wrote:I successfully connected a generic GPS module to a frsky hub, no problem. Just make sure it's set to send its data at 9600baud, 2Hz is fine.

Your GPS needs to have a TTL serial interface, and have the correct settings. If it's used by an OSD it likely won't be set at 9600 baud (not sufficient for more than 2Hz, while most work at 5 or 10Hz).

Re: Frsky hub and generic GPS ?
Does anybody know, which NMEA records are sent from the FrySky GPS ?
btw, Gps modules normally can be reprogrammed to lower repetition rates (e.g. with sirfdemo336xp.exe )
May need a TTL to RS232 converter and a COM port.
