How do I read single cell voltages in Telemetry screen?

openTx has introduced a range of new features, ideas and bling. It is fast becoming the firmware of choice for many users. openTx will run on ALL current hardware platforms, including the gruvin9x and sky9x boards. Work has already started to support the new FrSky X9D radio!

How do I read single cell voltages in Telemetry screen?

Post by bpjacobsen »

I want to setup a voltage alarm that tells me when a single cell goes below 3.6 volts. However, the telemetry screen in the QX7 only shows total voltage. Is there any way to setup the alarm to be based on a single cell going below 3.6 volts? I would assume you would need a sensor setup that reads single cell voltage but I can't find a forum that explains how to do this.

I know how to setup the switches. The problem is I don't have any telemetry slot that reads cell voltage for a single cell. Just the total voltage. How do you add the single cell voltage option? Or is this dependent on the Rx? I"m using a lemon with telemetry which has a voltage sensor connected to the + on the balance lead of the lipo. I have to assume Open Tx is capable of reading individual voltages no? Just trying to figure out how to set that up.

Is the total voltage called Cels? If it is you make Calculated telemetry entries like
Cels.PNG
(5.77 KiB) Not downloaded yet
Having the Total Voltage of the battery does NOT give you access to individual cells. This is not an OpenTX problem, it is a Lemon Telemetry problem.

But since you didn't believe the first time, you probably or not going to believe me now.

What Lemon sensor gives you individual cells? The Lemon web site does not show it.

For OpenTX to be able to display cell voltages you need something that actually measures them by connecting to all pins on the balance connector and transmits the data, which doesn't exist in the lemon range nor even in the whole DSMX ecosystem it seems.

I'm sensing some frustration on your part rdeanchurch. You need to realize this is all brand new to me. There is a forest of forums out there and it's very confusing to me and a challenge for me to know which forum to post what questions to. It's not about believing something you say. I am just ignorant to what forums to post what under. you got open Tx, lemon, Taranis, irange x, etc. But for this question, b/c I'm new to this, I thought I was in the right forum. My thinking was there might be a way to program open Tx to read each cell. But given the last couple of posts, I see now that it is not possible unless you have a sensor on the Rx connected to all pins of the balance etc. I get that now so I will stick with total voltage until I eventually upgrade to FrSky receivers. Thanks for the info and my apologies for any frustration caused by posting in improper forums. In my opinion though, it's all related and anyone with any degree of knowledge of open Tx would be able to lend a helping hand regardess of where I post it. I will try my best to chose the proper forums. thanks

This is not an "improper" forum. It is adequate for your question, and also many other questions you might have.
Everybody's welcome here as long as they respect the other users and do not offend anyone. OpenRCforums is a friendly place, it has been for many years, and we want to keep it this way.. :) ;)
And it is never too late to remind everyone (including myself ;) :) ) about this..

Maybe you need this sensor: (https://www.frsky-rc.com/product/flvss/),
(https://alofthobbies.com/frsky-sp-flvs- ... ensor.html).

So you are new to the RC Hobby
and we understand the difficulty and frustration you may be having.
Be penitent, you have some of the best people in the world who want to help you in this forum.
Some times we do not have enough information from a person asking for help,
so we are guessing at where the trouble is and the best way to help them.
We will do our best help you with all your RC troubles,
it can take a little time to get there sometimes.

I do not have the QX7 radio and I use the erSkyTx (erSky9x) firmware.
So you are then using the stock FrSky firmware ?
Er9x on 9x radio, with Smartieparts Programmer and TelemetrEZ Board.
ErSky9x on Taranis, Sky9x, 9Xtreme radios.

Bob, he is not using a frsky receiver, but a"Lemon" receiver which uses the DSM(X) protocol (Spektrum).
So I guess that Frsky sensor doesn't help in this case :)

Thank you João, I must have missed that info.
Maybe he should use FrSky, so then would not have a problem any more ?

I have several of the Lemon LM0052 , Which is their top of the line telemetry rx .It will only give you total battery and current . If your battery is balanced then you should be able to figure what voltage u want your alarm to go off . Each cell should be close (on a good bat)..My frsky rx will give me the individual cells . I made my own sensors thru the vario forum on this site
