Taranis: Set up Rudder & Nose gear Mixing

Post by Broady »

Hi guys,

Have just purchased a Dynam Meteor 64mm EDF and am at the final stage of setting up my mixes.

I am trying to setup rudder and nose landing gear steering mix on my Frsky Taranis.

Could anyone please point me in the right direction on how to create and setup this mix? I have all other channels working correctly.

CH 1: Thr
CH2: Ail
CH 3: Ele
CH 4: Rud
Ch 5 Gear

Use the Rud stick as source to the nose gear channel

So if channel 6 drives the nose gear steering servo, it would look like:
CH6 100 Rud

Something like that..
You have to ask yourself, "which stick will move the nose gear?"
It is the Rud stick, right? So that will be the source to the gear channel :)

But the gear channel (5) is already taken for the retracts. That's why I suggested channel 6 for nosewheel steering.

You might also use the Gear Switch as a 'gate' (enable/disable) for that Ch6 Steering, so that steering is only enabled when the Gear is DOWN.
So that using Rudder whilst you retract the Gear will not make it do funky moves (turns) and possibly hit the fuselage sides as it goes in. Ch6, Max, "0", Switch 5
I also add a Delay to its Extend direction so that you still do not have Steering ability until it is fully deployed, or at least a fair way out.

Some aircraft it is even useful to set a defined offset value, in an extra mixer line of that steering channel, to MAKE it angle the nose wheel before it stores. eg a second Ch6 mixer line of Max, '5", Switch:Gear, Replace. So as soon you as you Switch the Gear (Ch5) it makes this extra mixer line in Ch6 take-over (Replace) from the first 'normal steering' mixer line, and turns the steering by "5", setting it to an angle that suits it storing optimally.

Watch your nose gear go in, and see if it is clean.. or needs some 'special' offsets to make it assured clean storage.
You can use the OpenTX abilities to create very useful 'procedures' for things to operate through, if required. And then have far better operation than a 'simple' Gear switch only setup.
