End of the line for the 9X?

Post by pmackenzie »

Could they be discontinuing it?
Or perhaps it is going to ship "ER9X ready" with a built in programmer?

Or is it just a baseless rumor?

You decide

I've learned not to trust HK support. They'll tell you things simply to get you off their back.

That being said I'll be first off the line to hack something new :)

I would guess that they will sell their model with the LED backlight installed.
For the amount of 9x's they buy , I never understood why they didn't get the backlight factory installed.
That way their unit is different than what others sell.

They usually try to make their stuff "different" by being cheaper.
It would be new to them to make what they sell better than what their competitors have

I would think that Turngy are going to a removable RF module , as thats what everybody wants.
As I understand it the poster said HK has discontinued it , not FLYSKY , they still show the radio on their website.

HK May discontinue it if they find that they cant make money on it!

Soo many people sell it now, that there is hardly profit in it!

I was thinking hk sold it near cost to get you in the door to buy other items. Dont know about others but i went to them for the 9x, added a few other items i wanted, then filled up the rest of my shipping weight range. I did see last week where they were limiting 9x's to 1 per order. To me that is consistent with a 'loss leader ' item.

Has anybody thought about approaching FlySky to see if they will make a version of the 9x available that comes WITHOUT the main PCB? That would be useful for those that are expecting/wanting to put in the ERSKY9X board when it is past beta test phase.

If it takes $10-$15 off the price of the unit, i'm sure that will put a few more smiles on people's faces.

Wouldn't that be the same as asking Ford to sell their cars without engine so we could install our own engine in it??

Well seems like news of the 9x's death was premature.... HK has them in stock for the next 5 minutes.

Those 9xs that sold out at HK in five minutes flat? That was 1200 of them.

HK have an announcement on the support board that new stock will be arriving soon. Keep your eyes peeled!

If they were selling it at a lowest price it worked. I spent over $1K by adding items to my orders in the last year since I found you guys and the 9x projects going on. Maybe even more. Soldering stations, magnifiers, tools, not even in the total. Planes for testing, upgraded my scope and meters. Wow, I could have taken a cruse, but not to Italy, for all that. Over $1K to fly a $100 foam airplane, not bad?
The actual value in all this was meeting new people that enjoy putting their own system together and sharing the knowledge. That’s something I’m still enjoying so back to the “lab”.
I did stock up on a few spare 9X radios for future parts so I'm good for a while there.

Well, it is possible that the TH9X was discontinued, however I don't really see any evidence of it other than the one post about what a HK rep said. In fact, I have received numerous emails about HK receiving more stock, and one time I even managed to add one to my cart before they sold out. I'm not sure why, but I didnt pull the trigger there and then. I'm hoping that there was just some supply issues due to chinese new year, and that HK, LH, HPz and others receive more shipments to meet demand. With the popularity of these radios, I'm not sure if we will see the price dip as low as it had been last year.

As for the rumors about a new model, its possible that HK will replace the 9x with something else, but it doesn't look like it will be from FlySky. I did a bit of searching on the FCC site, and found no new applications for a new radio. The most recent filing was the GT3B back in 2010, and the CT6B in 2009.

https://apps.fcc.gov/oetcf/eas/reports/ ... Search.cfm

in the "Applicant Name" field (3rd down) enter: DONGGUAN CITY FLYSKY REMOTE MODEL CO., LTD.
Click "Start Search" and after a moment it results in six products having been filed. If you click Details (make sure not Summary) you will get a link to view internal and external images of the products in question. Sadly nothing new, it seems.

Here are the direct links for the lazy bones out there. :)

Seeing this thread i bought a third 9x @ wowrcmodel.
Got the FS-TH9X-B for $101.99 CAD registered shipping included & shipped in 24 hours.
I will get a forth one very soon.
HK sent me a few IN STOCK emails but after an average on 17 minutes it's too late.
I will not get anymore Eurgle's since they are just FS-TH9X-A where U need to solder
to install the Smartieparts board. I'm a lazy bone.

my experience exactly. Seems like I get an email on more stock on a better than weekly average. Once, I had about 4 added to a cart and was playing around to find the sweet spot for shipping costs. I saw the Qty in stock slip away like sand in an hourglass.

I managed to snag one from HK last week around 10:30pm EST. They only had a couple available, so I didn't waste any time adding to my order. I had to place another order the following day for my LiFe battery, the backlight, and some other misc items. Both orders shipped after a day, but neither tracking number is showing any progress yet. I'm so impatient. And to make matters worse, the other day I sat and watched the US warehouse add 60+ in stock, and proceed to sell out in minutes. I could have ordered from there and gotten it sooner.

But on the bright side, it looks like 9x are still being produced and are indeed moving.

Apparently Hobby King recently tweeted about the upcoming Turnigy 9xR. Might be from a new supplier.
