Anyone have a good source for Turnigy and Frsky case screws? Both TX's use a differant headed screw. I’m not sure about the thread. Metric is not something I’m used to so I can’t tell what I want? With all the mods going on a few get lost it seams. Always one that gets away. I don’t want to strip out the plastic with the wrong size.
Thought I’d put it out there for discussion

This is the solution I opted for. Works well. http://www.smartieparts.com/shop/index. ... cts_id=340

Re: Case Screws?
Great idea. I'm actually only missing 2 FkySky screws and the plastic isn't striped yet. If I can't find them on my work bench among all the technical clutter I'll order a set of these. That will give mr spares for the future of the other TXs.
Good to know for my turnigy 's since I'm sure they do strip sooner or later.

Re: Case Screws?
Just a word about that pack from smartieparts.
You must drill the holes in the case to accept the metal inserts.
With a special size drill bit that you must source of yourself.
I haven't done the mod yet as I haven't been in the radio again.

Re: Case Screws?
Just my observations and thoughts.
With so many RC car models and parts bring sold I wonder if anything they use would work?
I'll take a screw with me to several large rc car hobby stores in my area.
Over the last year I've noticed that the Turnigy case screws are now smaller head and diameter and more like the FlySky case screws. I also think the pitch of the metric screw head has changed. Many Philips type screwdrivers I have don't mate as well as they used to. I have a special Canon metric TV lens T handle screwdriver that mates 100% and doesn't slip out when used. Others I've used in the past do slip now?

Re: Case Screws?
The inserts are supposedly manufactured to suit 1/8" drilled holes. I was able to get the inserts into four of the main case screw posts but was worried that the force that I had needed would break the top two posts that are longer and thin. Even the SP recommended size holes (#29 or 3.3mm), which are slightly larger than 1/8", can be too tight to fit easily. I bought a #29 from the local hardware store and ordered a pack of 10 3.3mm bits on EBAY for a few $. The other option is to drill slightly larger and glue the inserts in after protecting the internal threads. SP don't recommend this but I found that it can work if you are careful. I've modified 3 radios with these inserts.berniep wrote:Just a word about that pack from smartieparts.

Re: Case Screws?
just use m2 and m3 screws. You get a dozen or more for $2 at any fastener supplier.

Re: Case Screws?
I understand using these works,
4/40 or 6/32 screw or if metric what fits the thread.
I've not tried this myself.

The plastic post is cut down to make these flush with the original dimension posts. They screw into the plastic hole or made hole with a drop of CA. 4/40 or 6/32 screw or if metric what fits the thread.
