Setting up FrSky conversion with telemtry from arducopter

I spent all night reading about all of your genius mods and I think I've come to a point I'm ready to order parts...
I would like to upgrade to a FrSky RF system so that I have Failsafe mode with telemetry and use the Arducopter telemetry to display on the 9x LCD.
So I guess first I need the FrSky Tx and Rx. Is this the only one that will work with the 9x?

If the DFT module works just as simply, it is slightly cheaper...
And in order to use it I have to solder wires to program the MCU in the 9x with er9x or open9x...
Which hopefully since I already have an AVR ISP mk2 I can just use this diagram and upload the firmware with eePe. Or will I need to use AVRDUDE this way?

Then, in order to use the telemetry from APM 2.5 Arducopter, the Rx has to read the Mavlink packets using a jd-IOboard using this diagram:
http://www.jdrones.com/jDoc/_detail/wik ... de_ioboard
jd-IOboard v1.1 - jDrones
And finally (but here's where I get confused) - I need to do the "telemetry mod" on the 9x to get the telemetry data on the LCD and switch to er9x-FrSky firmware. So this involves moving two switches to different pins of the MCU to free up the Tx and Rx pins.
But there seems to be a few methods of doing this. Modify the FrSky module by cutting traces and adding resistors, or using transistors for level shifting, or it seems I can use this telemetry receiver board but I cannot find a how-to using it.
Telemtry Receiver upgrade (light) - Hobbyking
Is this the best method? It seems very simple wired like this:

So... am I missing anything? Do I need to do anything else? Thank you in advance
