Hi all.
Firstly an apology. I have searched and read an awful lot on this subject but there is SO MUCH information I have only managed to confuse myself beyond understanding.
I have a 9x successfully flashed with ER9X.
I am planning to use it on an 18" span ultra light model and the turnigy Rx is too heavy.
I thought it is an ideal opportunity to go for a standard (or more common) format.
So to my question.
I want a module for my 9x that I can simply plug in and use if at all possibly and a very small and light 4ch Rx.
I was thinking this
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... II_RX.html
It's JR compatible and for me future proof.
Comments and thoughts are appreciated as I have completely confused myself!
Cheers in advance
Noob confusion. What module?

Good choice. You won't go wrong with frsky.
Slope Soaring, FPV, and pretty much anything 'high tech'
...........if you think it should be in the wiki.. ask me for wiki access, then go add it!

So it will be plug and play?
Obviously after removing the wired in Turnigy module that is.
Cheers Rob!

Re: Noob confusion. What module?
Yep. The smallest matching receiver they make is the VD5M:
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/stor ... metry.html
I personally crashed a model at about 150m with one, but it was in FPV, which means there is additional noise onboard, and that it's easy to go further than expected - but still. Maybe I got a defective unit, but I didn't try further or get another receiver to compare.
I was going to replace it with a small OrangeRX DSM2 receiver, which could be used with an OrangeRX DSM TX module (available from HK). Never got to it though.
I'm using the larger FrSky receivers for all my standard size models with no problems though.

Re: Noob confusion. What module?
Pretty plug and play.
But you may want to consider a telemetry ez upgrade too!
That way you get the most from the module and your radio. But all in good time!

Re: Noob confusion. What module?
Thanks for the info guys.
I have gone ahead and ordered the Frsky DJT module and VD5m (i doubt i could see an 18" model past 200M!).
Now...All the Telemetry mods i have seen are for the DIY kit DHT. Is there a guide for using the module rather than the kit?
I just want to mod the main PCB correctly and once
Cheers again.

Re: Noob confusion. What module?
Yes on guides
The er9x wiki has a lot of info.
About the vdm5?
Frsky site states ......
1.3 Features
1) Super small and light, designed for park flyers and indoor aircrafts;
2) Compatible with all FrSky modules (V8 mode & D mode), receive only (VD5M can talk with module of either mode, but it does not send any telemetry information back to the transmitter).
As stated in #2) the VDM5 does not send any telemetry data back to the TX.
If this is your tx of choice no need to do any tx telemetry mods?
This RX would be my choice DR4-ll.
Small with telemetry.
http://www.frsky-rc.com/ShowProducts.asp?id=119
The DHT DIY is just the DHT module repackaged in a config that's thin and can be soldered into almost any TX you want.
The DJT is a pin for pin compatible module for JR TXs and in our case the 9x.
Both the DHT DIY and the DHT are identical circuit side.

I have my favorite telemetry mods that I'll discuss if you still want/need to do them with your RX choice?
Next time after you read all this and ask more questions.
Others will want to help as we when you post more info about what your wanting to do next.
There is also a SmartiParts no solder option that's covered in its own topic in this forum.

Re: Noob confusion. What module?
If you want a small receiver (3.5g) with excellent range (1000m), but no telemetry, that takes regular servo connectors, this is it for $15.
