Hello, first post and all that. kind of a lurker I suppose!
I have been working with companion 9X and ER9X trying to program what I want to work, but have got stuck at the meaning of the various logic symbols found in the custom switches section, and what the default switch assignments are. I hope with some reference I will be able to make some progress. What do they all mean? There must be a chart of definitions somewhere?
It would be nice to know, I have been guessing so far.
Somehow I have made a safety switch work for the throttle, but how can I set up a pot for throttle idle adjust rather than the throttle trim? Sorry if its all rather obvious, but I'm getting frustrated now.

I second jhsa's recommendation to read the manual. Just as important is a strong recommendation to use eePe Editor and not companion9X when using er9x firmware.

Here's something that would probably work in ER9x using GVARS:
Set GVAR1=P3 (this will be the offset for the throttle channel and allow you to adjust the idle with P3)
Set GVAR2=-20 (this will cancel the positive offset on the throttle channel. Used as a throttle cut with the stick all the way down)
CH03[tab=30]+100%THR Offset(20%) The 20% gives room to adjust the idle.
[tab=30][tab=30]+10%THR Switch(RUD) Offset(GVAR1) The 10% weight reduces the sensitivity of the idle adjust pot.
[tab=30][tab=30]+100%THR Switch(!RUD) Offset(GVAR2) This drives the throttle channel to zero for throttle cut.
The throttle cut is on the rudder switch for clarity.
It's not perfect because P3 will influence the entire range of throttle but it's a place to start.

Why do you not wish to use the throttle trim to adjust the idle? There is a neat little option in the model setup call T-TRIM (for throttle trim).
If this is enabled, then the throttle trim controls only the bottom end of the throttle.
With the trim centered, the throttle stick goes from -75% to +100%. The trim setting then adjusts the bottom end of the throttle from -100% to -50%.
This is what T-TRIM is for.

Thank you all for your patience and responses. I have come to understand it all much better now. Seems that EEPE can read Companion9x files now, which put me off before.
I just kind of like pots for fine adjustment, left to right seems more natural to me, and I like but mess about to see what things do. I will have another play later.

OK, the T-TRIM effect may be obtained, but using a pot for the trim, like this:
CH03: -50% THR Offset (-100)
CH03: * +20%P1 Offset(100%) -- MULTIPLY multiplex
CH03: +100% THR
This allows P1 to adjust the throttle at the low end, but does not affect to top end.

I don't think so, not quite sure what you have in mind. The above uses P1 to set the throttle servo at the low end, then the throttle stick provides a linear response form low throttle to full throttle with no dead space at the top end.
