Budding Boxing with HobbyKing HK6S

I have a 9x and my friend has a HobbyKing HK6S. I would like to buddy box with my 9x being the master and his HK6S the slave. Now would a plane male to male mono cable work for this? Has anyone tried a setup like this with the HobbyKing HK6S?

Yes, it works with just a mono cable.
