Clicking on links

Is there any way to get links to open in a new browser page instead of replacing the current one?
I keep on clicking on links then closing the page when I am done there, forgetting that "back" will take me back to the 9X forum I started from.

Just about every other site I use follows the open links in new page" method. My browser (Seamonkey) is set to open links in a new page.

At minimum, in SeaMonkey, right click on the link and you get a pop-up window that lets you open in a new tab or new window.

Same for Firefox. I think for IE as well but not sure as I avoid using IE.

Remembering to right click would require me re-programming myself. Not so easy at times

Hold ctrl and click a link? That works in EI. might work in Seamonkey? or set up a key shortcut. (macro)
Chrome you just press ctrl-n over a link and it opens the link in a new window. (I program my middle mouse button to do that)

Just downloaded seamonkey, yeah... Ctrl and click does it.

There are workarounds, but I still think it should simply default to open in a new window.
That is sort of the "standard". I can't think of another site that stays in the same window when you click a link.

You don't want it to happen when you click on a link that keeps you on the same site (like "View unread posts" for example).
But if it is taking you off-site or is a posted link to another thread then it should open a new window or tab, depending on how your browser is set up.

edit - just tried CTRL click, it opens the link in a new tab but does not switch to that tab. I prefer new windows, not new tabs
