Pictures / Photos not showing when posted

Post by bob195558 »

Note: I do not know why this picture will not show,
Something is wrong with the web sight because there use to be no troubles to show pictures.
It says it is not downloaded, but it is and will not show.

https://openrcforums.com/forum/viewtopi ... 17#p154817

==============================================================================

The fix is !!!
Something has been change on how openrcforums allows
Pictures/Photos to be seen in each posting.

So, to be able to post a Pictures / Photos to be seen in your posting,
you need to change which ever of the sides (Horizontal or Vertical)
so that the largest amount of the Pixels will be about 750 (maximum) pixels or less.
If 750 pixels dose not work, then keep lowering the amount until it does.

I have been using Windows Paint to modify the pictures down to these newer
allowed Pixel amounts.

Hi Kilrah,

I do not use Tapatalk myself.
Most Pictures I have posted are from my Kodak Z980 camera in JPG format.
Some are edited with Photoshop Element 8 which also maybe used to lower the file size.
Some other pictures are maybe screen shots and edited with Windows Paint also in JPG.

I have tried to find some common stuff that may show what works and what is not working and nothing still seem to not work at all.
Picture File Size, Picture Shape, Picture File Format, none of these cause any known reason to why it is not working.

It seems, something was change with how the forum works, which may has caused the trouble.
If the trouble is with something being changed, I do not know what it could be.
I do know in the past I was able to post any pictures with no troubles.

At some point I noticed I needed to make pictures smaller (lower resolution) to make them appear in line.
I've downloaded your picture from the third post and resized it to 15%. It is now only 28K instead of 717K and displays. At 25% (135K) it doesn't display. At 20% (94K) it will display.
I would suggest that, unless you expect a picture to be downloaded, rather than just viewed on screen, an image size of around 500 by 500 pixels is quite large enough for most people. You original image is 3000 pixels high, my monitor is only 1080 high, so I only need an image 1000 high, at most, for viewing!

I had some pics at 101Kb that didn't display, so I guess there's a 100K limit.

Thank you MikeB and Kilrah,
I did not try reducing the picture size down below 100K.
Though this picture MEAN WELL Power Supply 5V 18A.jpg (112.62 KiB)
(which was a screen-shot into Windows-Paint and saved as JPEG)

did display the first time and when testing it later, it would not display,
but it does today. :?

When testing for picture display size I find if it shows in the Preview
then it will also show when Submit is used.
I will do some more testing today of changing picture sizes.

I believe I can confirm what MikeB has found.
Not the size of picture file, but the Pixel sizes of the picture.
With a rectangle shaped picture the Horizontal Pixels and the Vertical Pixels,
which are different values, makes a difference when you rotate the picture.
So that orientation of the picture will cause the picture to be displayed or not.

Horizontal 739 x Vertical 502 Pixels will display the picture,
but rotate this picture 90 degree so that the Horizontal is 502 and the Vertical is 739 pixels
and it will not display picture.

Also it does not seem to be a total of the picture’s pixels,
but that there may be a maximum for the Horizontal pixels
and a separate maximum pixel value for the Vertical pixels.
