Backup eeprom/flash before switching to cfw

Post by thatsg »

Hi all,
I recently purchased a 9XR (w/ m128) and I would like to flash it with a custom firmware.
Before doing that I would like to back up the stock firmware and eeproom. I read in several threads that the stock firmware cannot be read back,
is it still the case? And what about the eeprom ?

I am trying to read both the eeprom and the flash from the 9xR, but all I get seems to be rubbish (please find them attached).
When I attempt to "Read EEPROM from TX" I get the error message "Invalid eeprom file."

Is it normal that I cannot read back neither the eeprom nor the firmware?
It would be nice to save at least my models before changing firmware.

Thanks a lot.

Cheers,
Raffaele

Yes it's still the case, neither of the memories can be read out. So if you want to switch you'll have no choice but to start from 0. Blame Hobbyking for that, there is absolutely no reason for read-protecting, but they do it...

Hi everyone!

It seems that this will solve my problem...so it's useless to backup the stock firmware and eeprom because it's protected?

I've read many threads yesterday to find this... :(

I've some doubts about EEPROM and Firmware...what's the difference? What should I need to flash to get almost the same as in the stock version?
Do I need to clear al data from the TX before?
After doing that...can I save my models and settings to another radio? (that's why I buyed the USBAsp!)

Thanks in advance.

KAOS

PS: I'm not new in computers (I'm system engineer :D) but I only update pc BIOS and I've some fear of bricking the TX doing the wrong thing.

Firmware is the control program, EEPROM is the model memory.
The stock firmware is er9x (slightly modified by HK).
The latest revision of er9x (r812) will look and feel very like the stock firmware, but does have many enhancements.
