Control a $25 led x copter with 9x er9x?

General mods that are considered worth doing; regardless of the end firmware you use.

Control a $25 led x copter with 9x er9x?

Post by ShowMaster »

Any ideas on the LED optical protocol used for the non rf toy x blade copters? I'm on the lookout for a junked one to play with. One more option for er9x.

Install the smallest rx in the toy and enjoy dsm2 controlled heli...

:D

It plugs into where the ir rx senso is.

Nice!
We need a "neat stuff" marker for stuff like this :)

BEWARE - WE ARE IN THE AIR!!!
What goes up... Should be controlled by a 9X!

You need a dsm tx, that rx in the link, and voila. Golden

Pretty sure the s107G has a gyro built in to its receiver. So you would be giving that up.

I had been thinking the other way around. take apart the tx that comes with S107g, put it in a jr compatible tx module, and control it with the 9x. I have seen the breakout of the s107g ir protocol, but nothing on controlling it with 9x yet. This of course depends on whether your goal is to fly the s107g outside during the daytime, or if you just want to control the s107g indoors with the 9x. I havent even flown my s107g much since getting the mcpx. Well I fly it a little when my lack of even basic skill on the mcpx gets me down .

The ir sensor is where the rx wires into. You shouldn't loose anything.

oh ok. Thanks for setting me straight. I was thinking this would replace the 5-in-1. So its in addition to the 5-1. the small weight is amazing.

Ahh, but with ppx or pxx... You could use the secon ppm line to control a lp4dsm and control the model. :D

I wanted to do the same thing and found a nice option. The iphone IR transmitters work by the iphone producing a PPM signal which is then amplified and transmitted. This means that you can buy a pre-built one and plug it into the trainer port, or if you are true to the ER9x spirit build one yourself  All it takes is a few resistors, capacitors, a battery and the amplifier (which I think you might only need for Iphones because they use a lower voltage, if anyone could confirm for me that would be great :P )

I'm going to go buy the parts in a few days and see if I can get it to work, but if anyone is interested I'll attach the schematics and PCB designs. FYI, they are the schematics from irdroid.

Sweet! I have wanted to do this sort of thing for a while :)

Maybe I will make myself an IR module I can just plug in!

FWIW, there used to be protocols in the 9X firmware intended to do IR control. (SILVA,B and C)
I assume that all you needed was an IR diode and a resistor connected to the PPM line to control the silverlit IR helis.

You can find the old code by digging through the revision pages.

Perhaps it is still in th9X?

Another advantage of this is that it would be very easy to use a iphone to control your th9x. This can be done with iphly's app and hardware (schematic here http://www.iphly.org/files/1813/0014/9245/opamp.png) the box is a module but you could plug it into the trainer port. With this if someone made a app, would it be possible to change settings on er9x?

I'm not sure but,
Both units have their own batteries so only ppm signal is needed. The 9x can do that. The channel order may not match a stock 9x but er9x can make that work.
It does have a mono plug and the 9X is ok there.
Best option is to see if you can download and run the ferr app and use your apple device as a controller into your 9x or a flight sim that takes audio ppm input. If you can do that you can use it with the 9x I'm thinking. Maybe someone here has the time to try out the app and report. I mat try the app but other 9x projects are first. Large user base here so let's see if this post finds a volunteer.

Iphly, this one and a few others don't work as an input to the trainer. I am thinking it needs the mod you mentioned. I haven't done that yet. I just tried to use my Android and Itouch as the slave units. the Trainer calibration screen doesn't respond (the calibration values should move when there is input from the trainer port) My other tx's do make the calibration values move.

Soooo... if somone would like to try who has done the trainer input mod for other tx's, then we'll know... I can't do it at the moment.. no parts at work. It shouldl work with Iphly, he shows it used as a trainer with a futaba radio.
