wireless trainer system

Post by manu »

done with a frsky D4FR Rx.
further HW: there is a instruction sheet at the frsky HP
1 audio jack 3,5mm, 1 battery & a few spare parts from the bench.
There is no instruction to set up the audio connector cable, but it's easy:
minus/GND goes to the shaft-contact of the audio plug
signal goes to the tip-contact of the audio plug, then plugged in and attached on the trainer Tx.
On the Rx CH3 & CH4 are bridged to get the CPPM Signal on CH2, put battery on CH1.
Student/buddy Terminal/Tx has to be bound to the "trainer"-Rx.
At the end it looks like this:

or attached to the Tx:

The system works without problems, there might be a slight delay on the buddy controls.
At last there is a slight problem with the D4FR which does not affect the function, I hope:
From time to time the telemetry Rx display voltage drops a third for just an instant, I don't know why. Low level alarms probabely have to set to zero to avoid annoying alarms.

Manu, nice. I did a similar application only using a flysky 6 channel rx. Powered by a small lipo. I did not package it neatly like you did. When I used it in the field I found that the movement of the servos was not as smooth as when a "hardwire" was used. I played with the modulation settings in the trainer menu, but nothing seemed to help.

If it were as smooth, I would use it.

Probably, the lack of smoothness is due to extra latency. Trainee PPM to tx module, tx to rx, rx to PPM, PPM to TUTOR CPU, CPU to PPM to tx module, tx to rx, and finally rx to servo.

As I practise with foamies and throwing dlg's with my Godson the advantage of being "unattached" prevails over the slight delay I notice. Im my case there are only 4 channels to translate. Probabely this makes it easier.

I too noticed the stuttering or jerkiness with the wireless trainer connection.
