Need some help please

I'm trying to get my head around all this. I just ordered another 9x that I will be doing the telemetry mod. I will be doing get the JR module instead of the diy version. After reading the wiki, I see that I would have to do some soldering. Is this only required if you want the telemetry data on the 9x lcd?

Basically my question is, can I still get telemetry data on the frsky lcd without doing all the soldering, and will I need the er9x frsky fw or can I just use the regular fw since I wont be doiing the soldering?

Correct. If you are using an external LCD - Then your telemetry is not being handled by the firmware.

So just regular er9x will do.
