9Xtreme installation issue

Post by lowprofile »

Hi

Wondered if anyone could shed light on this. I've just installed my 9Xtreme and everything seemed to go OK - the transmitter starts up, goes through the splash screen (even says 'Welcome') but I cant switch home screens, access menus, anything. The sticks are being read, because the readings on the screens change when you move them.
Furthermore the buttons all work, because if I start up with the throttle up I can use any of the buttons to clear the warnings. The trim cant be altered either - but you can use the buttons to put it into bootloader or maintenance mode.

Tx was working fine, I had an SP Basic board in there that I'd used to put OpenTX on it.

Any help? :(

Odd!
Please confirm non of the trims are working.
A couple of tests please.
Start in bootloader mode, then press EXIT long. Does the radio restart?
Repeat in maintenance mode.

Hi Mike

After leaving it a while I can't get into bootloader mode... sort of... The backlight comes on purple but there is no text in the display. In maintenance mode, the only option is 'update bootloader'

Can't get out of either mode with a key. Need to power cylce.

Doesn't it show the bootloader version when you enter bootloader mode?

Not any more.... a totally blank display (but with the purple backlight). If I plug it into the PC the two drives appear though.

Do any trim switches move the trim markers on the main screen?
Are all the trim markers still in their centre positions?
If a trim switch is stuck active, this does block handling the 6 navigation buttons.

And went connected, the display doesn't say "Connecting"?

Ignore the missing bootloader text problem. This has been reported by others and I have a fix, in the bootloader, for that.
See what the trims are doing as I asked above.

Mike

The trims don't move. The roll trim is buried on the right hand side (but that trim button works putting it into bootloader or maintenance...). The others are centred.

OK - if I hold the yaw trim (only) to the outside and power up, the TX goes into maintenance mode. This implies that the roll trim switch is stuck in the outward position (or the 9Xtreme thinks it is), but I didn't have the problem before I installed the expansion board.

So I need to uninstall the 9Xtreme to isolate that fault. To do that I will need to flash firmware to the built-in processor.... is there an easy way to do that *before* I get the screwdrivers out? ;)

Can you please clarify what switch exactly we're talking about? "roll" depends on how you have your sticks set up. So is it the left or the right? (edit: Actually I guess it has to be the right since you said "burried to the right" and "outside")

Inspect the 9Xtreme's 9-pin header for a bridged solder joint, particularly between pins 4 and 5... but check every adjacent pair of pins just to be sure. None should have continuity, but I suspect yours might.

I put a DMM across the pins on the back of the header (common to switch 1 and common to switch 2). Both cases show open circuit until the switch is pressed, then short circuit give or take. In other words, at the back of the header where the plug lands on the 9Xtreme, the switches are working as they should.

On the 9-way connector (J2, the one by the processor on the 9Xtreme), check between pin 8 (Ground) and each of pins 5 and 6 to see if there is a short circuit. Pin 1 is closest to the left edgeof the board.

Oh dear - now I have to admit to being a bit of a muppet........

When you turn the Tx over to look at it from the inside, the left hand switch is now on the right isn't it? So I was looking at the wring connector (DOH! )

The other connector does indeed have a solder bridge. I've cleared it and I'll reassemble after dinner and test. Suspect all will be well ;-)

Don't worry, I suspect we've all done that at some point. I didn't want to ask, so I just clearly specified which connector you needed to look at!
