9XTREME W/Freerider or Liftoff

I'm trying to get my 9Xtreme to connect to my mac with a USB cable so that I can train with Freerider or the new Liftoff game. Before I modded the 9x it would connect just fine with a cable to freerider but I wasn't able to get it to trim enough to be able to fly. I connect it the same way with the new 9xtreme board and I don't get anything. I'm new to er sky 9x and I don't really know what I'm doing.

What cable did you use before with the standard 9X? I'm not familiar with either the MAC or freerider.

This is the cable, I'm not using any of the adapters in the picture just the usb cable.

It's possible that USB adapter requires NEG polarity on the PPM signal rather than POS polarity.
On er9x, the trainer polarity is the same as the 'normal' PPM signal, you may have set this to NEG.
On ersky9x on the 9Xtreme, the trainer PPM signal is completely separate, and it looks like I've missed being able to set the polarity, so it is 'stuck' at POS.

I'll have a look at being able to configure this tomorrow.

Great! Thanks Mike. I had tried the negative polarity, good to know that it doesn't do anything when you switch it in the menu.

I've just posted a test version for the 9Xtreme here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4676#p65894.

This adds an option on the protocol menu for the trainer polarity, which does change the trainer output.

Was wondering why I couldn't get it to work after upgrading the board. I wish I could just plug in the USB into the 9xtreme and do away with all the audio jack mumbojumbo.

I appreciate that, I just need enough time to do everything!

Mike, does the test version for the trainer cable include the 3 position switch fix?

many thanks

Alright, I've downloaded it and flashed to my 9X, the polarity option for trainer is there now and I switched it to NEG. It works! I get a response from the calibration tool in both games. The problem now is that channels 1-4 are just jumping around with no input on the sticks. It's like someone is moving the sticks in all directions even though they are centered and not moving. Any idea what's going on now? They're not jumping around on the 9x menu screen, just the normal +- .2 fluctuation.

Try to reduce the number of channels put out by the radio to 6 instead of 8, some of these Chinese cables are buggy and behave better that way.

I just tried to reduce the channels and it doesn't seem to do anything, even if I drop it to 4.

stewwy: Yes, all 8 EXT signals should work correctly.

jimkill: I have a idea that some of these cables might need a wider pulse than 300uS. Again, at this point the trainer PPM is fixed at 300uS. Can you recall if on er9x you had set this differently for the cable?

I never changed the settings before so I don't know what they were. I simply plugged it in and it worked. Has anyone gotten the 9xtreme to work with one of these programs? If so what cable are you using? I'd be more than willing to buy a better cable if I knew it was going to work.

One slight difference between er9x on a 9X and the 9Xtreme is the signal level on er9x is 0-5V, while the 9Xtreme is 0-3.3V, due to the processors running from different voltages.

Because the 9Xtreme uses the same processor core as the Taranis, I've been able to port the USB joystick driver from openTx into ersky9x for the 9Xtreme.
I've just tested it with the FMS simulator.
This will be in the next test version I post.
Before anyone asks, the SKY board, 9XR-PRO and AR9X boards use a different processor. To get the USB joystick working on these requires a USB HID driver to be sorted out, which will take quite a bit of time.

I managed to post it late last night!
It wasn't too difficult as I only had to copy the files from openTx and do a bit of merging.
I'll hopefully add this to ersky9x for the Taranis as it is the same processor.

There is one little problem.. when using the simulator the battery bay must be open and the battery fall down :(
I really wouldn't like to cut the battery cover :(

Tested.. And working very good. Thank You..
But it's called Taranis?? :mrgreen: :mrgreen:
Also when just connecting the radio to see the SD Card contents. :)

To use the joystick feature, turn your radio ON as you do normally, and then connect the USB cable. The first time you do this a driver will be installed on your computer.
Just follow the same procedure to use your radio with a simulator or another game..

Slightly off topic, but the joystick is also working on ersky9x for the Taranis.

You rule man. I really mean it! You ROCK!. Never have I seen a product so well supported from the time of release (well I'm a Systems Admin so go figure :lol: )

Thank you for all your hard work. We are enjoying the fruits of your labor.

I managed to configure 9Xtreme for FPVFreerider:

Its very simple actually and it doesnt require all the settings from the Taranis for instance.
First, create a model and name it whatever you want;
DSCF1468.JPG
Second,go to protocol, in the model menu and switch off the external (i think it really doesnt matter if you dont have a module in the module bay);
DSCF1481.JPG
Third, go to the curves menu and make a linear curve from -100 to 100; Skip this step, its not needed with this configuration.
DSCF1483.JPG
Fourth, go to the mixer menu and edit all sources to 50 weight and 50 offset and add curve 1;
DSCF1475.JPG
DSCF1478.JPG
DSCF1473.JPG
Dont add DR/expo, leave them as the default values shows.
Now, plug the radio via usb to pc, start FPVFreerider and follow the instructions to calibrate the tx.
The circle that shows the stick position has to be centered.
It worked fine for me. Enjoy
