RE: Receive My 9Xtreme and Installation (Taranis Gimbals Upgrade)

Taranis Gimbals upgrade, calibrating new gimbal sticks,
calibration failed several times in a row.

Just finished installing maybe the last new 9Xtreme board in a new Turnigy 9x radio.

List of mods done before installation of 9Xtreme board:
9x Module Bay Mod
Reverse Current Protection Mod
Upgrade Taranis Gimbals Mod
Horizontal Trims Digital Ground Mod

Mods and 9Xtreme installation went smoothly
and when powering up first time, no Magic Smoke.

1) After calibrating the new Gimbals and pot on the left (Aileron stick) failed to calibrate and was floating around by itself.

2) Flashed newest firmware,

VERS: V.1764 - Mike
Data: 04.12.2016
SVN: erSky9x-r220
Mod: 9XT

Updated some of the Radio Setting and checked that other were proper, like Mode 2.
Did calibration again and both Gimbals failed to calibrate.
Several more time repeating calibration with changing failures in both Gimbals.

3) As normal with first installation of Taranis Gimbals some of the stick directions are incorrect,
so I went to (Left Trim held when powering up, to open the Hardware menu) "Radio Setup" / "Hardware".
The first two tries, I made incorrect stick directions and when trying to calibrate, still failed.
When I made the correct stick direction and then recalibrated radio, I then got the proper Gimbals calibration
and they look to be rock solid now. :)

Not sure why I was not able to get proper radio calibration, until the Gimbal stick direction were made correct ? :?:

One other thing that is incorrect is with the front left-side Pot-3 is working backward,
in that when turning it to the right the values decrease instead of increasing.
Thinking about it ...... , it must be that it was miss-wired at the factory.
So I believe I just need to swap the two outside wires on this Pot-3 to fix it ? :?:

Horizontal Trims Digital Ground Mod
Not needed if you install the 9xtreme board..

Yes, the "Horizontal Trims Digital Ground Mod" was done before this newer 9x (with 128 processor) was to be upgraded with the 9Xtreme board.
My thinking was, I should include all the mods that had been done to this 9x radio. ;) :)

Any thoughts to why Gimbals would not calibrate and do you think having the Gimbal stick directions properly set, helped them to calibrate ? :?:

Adding a IRangeX serial multi module to my 9Xtreme?

Just verifying some facts before moving forward.

Does the latest ersky9x have support for the serial multi module. I know my Pro has.
I’m using the black wire from the 9XT to connect to my XJT module.
This same connection should be compatible with the multi modules?
Nothing else needs to be done except swap modules between my xjt and multi if needed? If he wants to fly Frsky I’de recommend using the xjt module but that too is open to opinion?

I’m assuming all the answers are a yes but I haven’t used this tx with a multi module. I’m going to loan it to a friend that’s needing more features.
He’s flying a Airtronics RD-8000 and wants to try some dsm2/x bnf planes.
Thanks

Ersky9x was actually the first open source firmware to support the multimodule via serial :)

If you have the PRO radio, you are probably using Ersky9x??

The stock DJT does not use pin number 5 of the module bay, that is why you need the other wire for telemetry on the PRO.

Both the XJT and the Multimodule use
Pin mumber 5, so they should pass telemetry to the radio by plugging them in and selecting the right COM port. Also you need to invert the COM port depending on what the module needs..

Great answer.
I’ll give it a try ASAP.
Thanks.
