I had the same thing until I flashed to the newest firmware.

Edit: Switch errors message was what I was concerned with.
I did not pay attention to the splash-screen and the antenna noise,
I did have the XJT/DJT module plugged in when powering up.

What setting do you have for "ADC Filter" in the hardware menu? Try OSMP if you have SING set.

Maintenance mode is found by powering with the two horizontal trims hel APART (to the sides, not to the centre as for bootloader mode).
Then you have the option to update the bootloader.

Got a bit better, with FILT also get better, I still have no splash screen and still have the switch warning sometimes even though all switch are default.
The first time I changed the filter though, the backlight color changed and one of the pots (P1) really jumped on the main screen. The little bar went to full. But it looked like jitter..
Then I rebooted the radio and it was better. But still not good.

Sometimes it starts with a different color. If i reboot it will start with the color I programmed. Is there a better thread for discussing this problem?

What else apart from noisy analog inputs could cause the backlight not showing when starting the radio normally, but showing when starting with the throttle not down?
Also, why would the radio sometimes report a switch warning with all the switches on their default position? The screen doesn't show which switch cause the problem. Just the voice alarm is played. So, if there is a switch causing the problem I don't know which.. Strange. :o

Also, when I leave the radio OFF for a while, next time I turn it ON the backlight is White instead of my nice Orange that I've programmed. If I restart the radio, then it starts with the right color. Also it happened when I installed the Joystick driver on the computer, that after rebooting and starting in bootloader mode the backlight was also white instead of the normal Pink(ish) and no drives appeared on the computer's screen. After rebooting in bootloader mode all was normal again.

When the radio starts with the wrong BL color, boot reason is "POWER ON" number 0

Or did you mean when the switch alarm sounds?

João

EDIT: Strange, after flashing the Joystick test version this morning, I don't remember hearing the switch warning.
But the BL and splash screen problem are still there..

The switch alarm is probably due to one or two switches that are actually being read by an analog input, and the analog input hasn't settled at start up. The error therefore clears almost immediately.

Slow analog input settling could also cause the missing splash screen, as the radio might think some analog inputs have changed significantly.

I'll look for why the backlight isn't getting set.

Do you have the audio volume assigned to a POT? If not, please set one for testing. This causes an extra analog input read early on that might make the splash screen appear normally.

I think I have had the switch warning at turn on occasionally but none of the other symptoms. I'll pay more attention to it now. I did flash to the last new FW posted in your thread a week ago Mike. I used a orange bl for several days at Halloween and now a yellow green. All my power up's have stayed the color I've selected. The audio is still just s faint background data buzz or I guess what's being called a hiss. No change with or without the xjt module installed.
My 9x was a eBay buy that seems to be a Iris rebranded tx as part of a quad package. The MB was modified for Frsky djt telemetry, very clean conversation. The modules rear data port was used via a cable and rs232 to Ttl converter. I decided to keep it all in tact so I installed a stock FlySky spare 9x MB I had as a pull out. It has the normal "M64' on it if that helps? The 9Xtreme board flashed it when I powered it on the first time.
The bl and speaker was added, and after a first checkout, I added haptic. Then later upgraded the FW to your posted one.

A 8 cell LSD 2000ma nimh with a polarized adapter power cable from the original AA pack is being used. I haven't tried a 6 cell nimh or 2 cell Lipo to see if that makes a change or raises the noise levels. I'm sure it's not connected to the issues but I want to post my total setup.

No one locally I know of has ordered the 9XT upgrade kit but I'm asking around. A second board is heading my way and I plan to install it in my 9x to listen and see if it's the same or different that mine.
These boards are weeks apart in ordering so maybe the runs will be different?
More when I know something new.

It doesn't make any difference Mike. Still no splash screen..

maybe you could create a test version with a wider band needed to clear the alarms with the stick movement. Like that we would know if this is really caused by the noisy inputs??
Thanks

Just throwing my issue in as well with JHSA. I'm having the same issues periodically. It's almost repeatable if I had left a switch engaged before shutting down it will warn me at start up just not always. I've only seen the backlight issue twice. Once when I loaded a new firmware and once when I changed one of my models to use the internal DHT module instead of the flysky external module. Rebooting fixed both of these.

I had time to try messing up the power on messages this morning. I tried 10 times in a row. Took a rest tried it again.
I set my screen to be all RED. Last different switches to be wrong and throttle stick up. At power in my screen always came on red. I got the stick and switch warnings and cleared them. Next time no warnings. I alternated between switches ok and wrong, throttle up and off, powered on/off. Always red screen and a warning or no warning as I expected.
No way am I implying issues aren't happening to some, or that I have magical powers that prevent me from having them, just that so far I can't reproduce them.

I also tried model save and restore from the sd card since without issues. I hadn't tried that yet.

I think it's important to mention the CPU and any 9x board mods done by us prior to the 9XT install.
Again, I'm using a stock FlySky 9x board with a M64 that had no mods or prior FW upgrade flash. My battery is an 8 cell nimh pack.

My audio does have a faint high freq data background noise, too low to bother me. When announcing the voice is very good quality and the background noise gets very low or stops at that time.
Powering on with bottom trims in or out does give a lower frequency data background buzz, different from the normal mode buzz.
I do randomly hear the first 1/2 second or less of the announce voice get choppy. It happens so fast that I had to really concentrate to hear it, but it does start choppy at times. I discovered this sitting in my quiet hobby room at 6AM, never heard it until I concentrated. I don't consider this a problem but since we're troubleshooting, full disclosure of what I'm discovering. It's kind of a low frequency put put put sound. Maybe 3-5 times real fast and goes away.
My Taranis wouldn't pass this test I don't think. I'll try that next.

There definitely has to be a reason why some are having issues. The first obvious one is a run of boards that got wrong parts, or missing parts, or defective board trace or soldering. Add to that the 9x board this board is attaching too.

Breaking down the issues to isolate them is the best option.
A complete rundown of the 9x board, new, used, new CPU upgrade, been used with other FW before, battery source, would help.

Trying a different SD card?

Then getting a few of the really troubled boards to Mike or Steven, will allow them or others to troubleshoot them. Steven is working on that now.
I have a new second board I'll install today to see if it's ok. It's also from China and I'm assuming another batch, different from my first board sent to me?
I won't add haptic to it. I tested my original install after each install step, before haptic or XJT wiring, and it was still ok.

Before that in my working one, I'll try a new SD card and a 2 cell Lipo, maybe a 3 cell?. The idea is to change my working setup in case I lucked out with my mine?

Finally as the coffee kicks in, since at least one owner found a solder bridge on his board as I remember, that would be a common issue to check out with a eye loop or magnifier. Look at your board top and bottom for solder bridges.

Showmaster, please try setting your backlight to orange. then see if your board starts always with that color when you have all switches on default positions and the throttle down. No switch or thr warnings.

With your bl settings.
Out of 10 cycles I got one switch warning at turn on. No screen whiteout or throttle warning.
I do think I've had the random warnings but very random and few. It didn't register in my brain. I'll be aware of them now.
I'll have to get busy and install this second board to see how it does.
I'll leave the bl settings to match yours for testing.

Yes, another 10 tries. At the exact moment of power in I may see a flash but as well as 1 speaker pop. The flash disappears before the speaker pop does, it's that fast.
I expect the pip/pop because the speaker is seeing the DC applied at turn on.
I'll install this second board and repeat the same tests shortly. Still waking up, long hours week.
I do notice that my swr value on my xjt is hovering around 16/18. Mike knows about that and I suspect he'll deal with it. The xjt is new and unmodified so it's how it was received. I think having a fw offset to dial in would deal with that. Ones you range test and fly and get a RSSI range for your flying, set the swr to 0 and go from there? If I grab the antenna the swr does go to 32 so I know the circuit is working. This shouldn't be related to the 9Xtreme install in any way, except how the fw reports the value?
Never had that option with my xjt modules, just depended on RSSI.

I just tried another 10 on/off cycles, eating until the welcome was done before powering off. On # 2, and #5 out of 10, I got the switch warning this time. So there needs to be a tweak of the fw I guess for that.
The bl was normal every time so far.
Time to get up and at it! Ran out of coffee.

Thanks Mike. We discussed that right off and I have been. I posted it again as I forgot looking at that screen until the testing today. I'm sure others will discover it and now they know it's ok.
I'll turn it off like I have in my Taranis. I'm assuming there it's being monitored if it gets really bad.

To see the problem I'm having with the colors you must wait something like 10 minutes before you turn it on again. if you turn it on immediately after you turned it off the backlight color will be correct. Ans also no alarms at power on.

It's funny how apparently the same chip on different boards, with the same code, behaves differently??
For example, some boards don't have the splash screen problem. Mine does.. Is this caused by tolerances in the chip?
