x4r

Post by Parts »

I have a Turnigy 9xr pro, xjt module and frsky x4r-sb. Running 218 on my tx. Problem is when I turn on the RX the red light flashes, the TSSI on the TX goes to 16, and that's it. If I try to bind I put the TX in bind mode by holding the switch. Then I hold the F/S button down on the receiver and apply power. Both the red and green LEDs go solid and stay that way till I reboot then its back to red flashing like (no signal)
Can you help

With an XJT, you bind by setting the protocol to PXX, then select "Bind" in the protocol menu.

Do I still press the f/s button while applying power. When I do I get a steady red green led

I held the button down and powered up. Bothe red and green are on steady. I pressed the bind button and just get a noise, no bind.
I have a x8r that work fine.

Where did you get the XJT and X4R from, and how long ago?
I'm wondering if the XJT is pre EU LBT firmware and the X4R is LBT firmware.

Got the XJT about 2-3 months ago from HK. Got the XT from HK yesterday. Looked at firmware from frsky but not sure what one I would need or how to flash it.
I do get the red/green lite when I press f/s and put power to it but can never bind. Maybe I'm do ng it wrong.
I tried to rebind my X8R using the radios menu bind but could not do that either Could I have something wrong in the TX settings?

What do the LEDs do on the back of the XJT do. When you select Bind on the radio menu, the red LED should start flashing.
Check both dip switches on the XJT are down.
Check you have PXX selected in the protocol menu, and the Type is set to D16.

Range Check

Both switches are down

Those settings look correct.
Try powering the Rx first, I would expect the red LED to be solid. Then when you select bind on the Tx, the red LED should flash.
After leaving bind mode on the Tx, you need to power the Rx off and back on before it will drive servo outputs.

I did as you asked. Nothing. Also when the RX is powered up with the f.s button depressed both lights go solid. This is as the instruction say will happen. This indicates the RX is ready to bind.
How long should it take to bind if all is ok?

The bind is virtually immediately, the red LED on the Rx should start flashing.
Does the X8R bind or are both receivers not responding?

Regarding flashing of the XJT and/or receivers, ersky9x on the 9XR-PRO includes a facility to do this.

After I did the binding process and reboot the red light flashes and the green is off but that's all I get. The instruction say this means signal loss.
When I put the x8r on I now get "RECEIVER SIGNAL CRITICAL" alarm. Could the bind on the 4 be ok but not getting a signal for whatever reason????

When very close to the X8R you may get swamping causing the Rx signal critical report.
However, does this mean you did bind to the X8R OK or is it just still bound from before?

Try moving away from the X8R and seeing what value you get for the RSSI.

I was maybe 10 ' away. The eight was still bound from before.
Need to charge both TX and RX batteries.
Will get more distance and check the RSSI when I am all charged up.
Your time appreciated.

To make sure the XJT is still functioning correctly, it is worth re-binding the X8R. To be certain it is a new bind, try changing the RxNum value first.

I put the 8 on again and got the same message. Went to ppm and it worked fine. Went back to pxx and did a bind all was good. RSSI was 88-93.
Went back to the 4 and tried all the above, no go. Still get red/green when I power on with button depressed. When I reboot flashing red and RSSI 0.

Either the X4R is faulty, or it has the incorrect firmware ("EU-LBT" not "rest of world").
Either you could try returning it for a replacement, or try updating the firmware. I think you need this firmware:
2015-06-30, 150630, X4R-X4RSB-CPPM- Non-EU Version, 194KB.

OK let's see of r218 has the flashing option, I can't remember when I added it.
Hold the two horizontal trim switches APART, then power the radio on. This enters "Maintenance Mode". You should see an option to update the bootloader. Do you also see and option "Update SPort"?

OK I downloaded the file and unzipped it to F:firmware\x4r, my radios eprom .
Connection using internal supply (max. 10 volts) Is this the correct way?
Can I use the SPort on my XJT connected to the x4r SPort using the TX battery as a power supply if it is below 10v???

What battery do you have in your Tx? If it is likely to exced 10V (3S lipo or 8 cell NiMh), then use a separate, lower voltage, battery to power the Rx.
Be careful with the wiring, in most cases the power and ground have to cross over.

Note you have to be able to power up the Rx only at the correct point in the flashing procedure.

You need to remove the XJT from the radio, there must be only one unit on the SPort bus while flashing, otherwise the radio will attempt to flash both at the same time!

Connect the required three pins of the module connector, in the correct order, to the smart port on the X4R.

When I go to the maintenance menu on my radio there are no files to flash. Did I put it in the wrong place, F:firmware\file name
If I move the file to firmware it appears

The download file is in compressed format. Did you extract "X4R_LBT_build151118.frk" from it, and put that in the "Firmware" directory?

I did now. It shows up ok.
What about using the tx battery if its under 10v I have the cable made and I'm ready all but the power supply question. I don't have any other batteries 10 volts or under

As long as the Tx battery is below 10 volts, then you are OK to use it, but if, for example, you have a 3S lipo in the Tx, this will be too high a voltage.

Mike
The flashing went well. Was able to bind. I then put the receiver on and hooked up each servo only to find channel 4 has a bad problem. When the servo is plugged into channel 4 the receiver puts a constant full signal to the control surface no matter what one I use.
Think I need a new one
Thanks for all your help and patience. I gained a lot of knowledge
