9xr Pro + XJT module telemetry problem

Post by mrtrodonet »

Hi

I'm having an issue setting up telemetry on my 9xr. I read other threads on this forum and tried to incorporate all the changes but still no luck.
I upgraded my firmware to v218. I have a 8xr rx and i'm trying to get battery voltage out of my smart battery meter that is connected to smart port. This is the one with lcd screen.

Both switches on XJT are in OFF position for D16 mode.
When i paired with receiver i did not use a jumper to set it into mode 5 (support of ch 1-8 , D16 and telemetry).

Please see attached pictures for my settings. I'm lost at this point....

1. Do you have the protocol to the XJT set to PXX?
2. For that sensor, the total voltage the telemetry value Ctot (for Cell total).
3. The lowest cell is called Cvlt (for Cell voltage).

Hello Mike, thank you for your response,

My Protocol is set to PXX.
I changed the custom settings to monitor ctot and cvlt, but everything is still zero.
i also went to the protocol menu and
- initiated binding.
- shutdown receiver
- holding f/s button and powered up receiver.
- green led was on on both XJT and x8r. red was blinking on both.
- shut down both and powered back on.

Still no readings.
here are some more pictures of settings

Question, shouldn't COM1 be inverted?..

No, for inverting COM1. Slightly confusing as the default is to use inverted serial, correct for the XJT, setting "Invert COM1" actually changes it to non-inverted!

mrtrodonet: Please confirm you can controls servos.
Your settings all look corect.
Since you are not seeing a RSSI value, we need to sort that as it indicates no telemetry data is arriving in the firmware.
Please set one of the custom telemetry values to "TmOK". This will confirm whether any telemetry data is being passed from the XJT to the main firmware, it will show values of 0, 1 or 2.
As an aside, it is normal to wire the sensors tothe X8R so the black wire is connected to '-' and the yellow wire to the signal, yours is the other way at both ends, so it is correctly connected.

Confirming that i can control the servos. all 8 channels work fine.
TmOK reads "0"

Is there any kind of reset procedure i can do on TX/RX that might help if it is some sort of a software glitch?

Thank you, Michael.

What value do you have for "SWR". This is sent from the XJT regardless of whether the Rx is on.
If you get 0, then try holding your hand round the XJT antenna, this usually causes the value to rise.

I'll see if I can build some extra debug in and post a test version for you.

I've just posted a test version of ersky9x (here: viewtopic.php?f=7&t=4676&p=65894#p65894).
This counts the number of bytes received over telemetry. The value is displayed on bottom line of the "DEBUG" menu (UP LONG, then RIGHT a few times).
If the value stays at 0000, then there is a connection problem between the XJT and the main board. If it counts up, then we have something being received by the main board.

Mike,

Thank you very much for your help. It is working now.
When you said connectivity problem between XJT and 9xr i pulled it out and plugged it back in and it fixed the issue!

I have read on some other forum that a guy had a problem with telemetry when his module was not fully in.
Keeping this in mind when installing mine i made sure it was fully in and i had 2 clicks. apparently those pins in the back of the radio are not very tight inside the circular openings in the module and i got a better connection this time.

Thx again. Gonna have my first flight this weekend!

FYI TmOK is currently 2

My turn to have a problem
I have XJT connected with 9xpro.
XJT is bound with D8 RX using PXX and D8 mode.
The problem is with telemetry,
Telemetry data as RSSI ,A1,A2,HUB are activated only when I toggle in TELEMETRY screen INVERT COM1 ON /OFF.
If I start TX with INVERT COM1 OFF I have to go in the TEMEMTRY screen and toggle INVERT COM1 OFF/ON /OFF again in order to work.
It is annoying to go in TELEMETRY screen all the time to activate telemetry this way.

What revision/test version are you running.
The inverter is supposed to be configured according to your setting when you load a model.
I'll try testing this tomorrow.

I used 219 revB.
It doesn't matter how the INVERT COM1 is set ,I have to toggle it in menu to ON/OFF or OFF/ON/OFF in order to work.

I just tested this and all seems to work correctly for me. 9XR-PRO - XJT module in D8 mode with a D8R-II receiver.

Note that r219 firmware is not released, so you must be using one of the test versions. Since I've posted 16 of these, please let me know the date on the version page of the one you have. I tested using the one from 22-May-2016.

I just flashed that version and it also works fine. As soon as I switch on, I get the receiver responding and the telemetry is present.

For information, the signal that controls the hardware inverter is provided by the RTC chip, so it is set/cleared by sending a command over I2C to the RTC chip.
Is your RTC working OK, or has its battery gone flat?
I have a vague idea that we have seen this problem before and it was caused by a flat battery on the RTC.

Yes it was the RTC ,Thanks for the hint. That solved the problem
Since I received this TX I did not change the date and time.It was not the RTC battery it was simple start the internal clock date and time.

Thanks again!

Posting just to say thanks too both of you.

I had my RTC at zero too and telemtry was only working when changing model . But now I set up time it works :)

I don't know if you remember mike , I was the one who couln't update xjt through Sport . Maybe that was the reason ?

Thanks anyway for this post and answers guys !

HI All,
first of all, Id like to say thanks and congratulation. You are doing an amazing job with ER9x!!!
I just want to let it logged for users that could have the same issue.

I have just bought the 9XR Pro + FRSky XJT + X8R and installed the ersky9x for 9XR-PRO. I was anxious to see the telemetry working and then I setup it as all of you recommended.
Without external cable.
Protocol PXX 16ch
Serial com 1
invert serial off
and all settings.

It worked perfect, but when I restarted the TX it stoped to work... then I needed to go to setting and I toggle in TELEMETRY screen INVERT COM1 OFF / ON /OFF.. Exactly the same issue of MIDELIC, every time I restarted the radio I need to setup again the Invert com 1 to OFF

I couldn't have found the solution if it weren't you.

Since I bought the radio I didn't have setup the Date/Time. My RTC wasn't started and it was my problem. Once time I setup date/time I have no more problems. It is working properly every time!

Thank you!
