Please help me to setup a voice Countdown timer.

Post by Daveh »

Can anyone point me to a resource that describes how to set up a countdown timer with voice alerts at minute intervals, then more frequent in the last minute?
From the standard manuals, I can see how in might be done in the voice alarms, one alarm/alert for each point, but I'm hoping that there is a neater way of setting one up.

Running Ersky9x-r220 on a 9XR Pro.

You can set it in the "Model Setup / Timers" menu..

Specifically, "Minute Beeps" provides the one minute callouts, and "Beep Countdown" provides 30, 20, 10, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 callouts.
Before voice (in er9x originally), you just got beeps, but with voice you get the voice messages.

Thanks for the pointers. I must be doing something wrong, I just can't get minute voice prompts, the countdown for the last 5 seconds works.
In the "Timers" menu, I have

Timer 1 2:10
Trigger ON
Trigger B _____
Timer Count Down
Minute beep ticked
Beep countdown ticked
Reset switch TRN
Haptic None

I can count down or up. Ticking or un-ticking "Beep Countdown" enables or disables the last 5 secs of the countdown, but the "minute beep" tick box appears to do nothing.
Strange too.. on power on I now see a message "Alarms disabled", even though I didn't switch them off (don't know how) and can't find where to enable Alarms.
Two Tx's doing the same.

EDIT: just noticed that, with the volume turned up, the audio gives a little extra "fiz" at the points that it should announce.. Wonder if it is playing the wrong voice file? Perhaps it's significant that the voice files that fail to play are all numbered from file #400, but those that do play are in a different group as well as over #400. The countdown timer should include numbers other than 5 to 1.

Please download and try the voice pack from here..

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=7715

ersky9x doesn't use numbered files for ages now. Er9x does, so it looks like your voice pack is either the wrong one, or too old :)
Ersky9x has also now some sub folders inside the "Voice" folder.. Just unzip the voice pack file you've downloaded to the root directory of the SD Card. All folders should be created.. Ahh, backup your old pack. Or just change the old "Voice" folder name to something else..

As for the "Alarms Disabled" warning please go to the Radio Setup / AudioHaptic menu, scroll down to "Beeper", and set it to any option except "Quiet"..

Thank you João,
Luckily for me, you are aware of the stupid things that the inexperienced can do.. The wrong voice pack!
Now the Tx has quite a lot to say, in a rather smooth voice. Countdown is fine.

Thanks for your patience...

As a coincidence, I saw on HK that the 9x using AFDHS 2A protocol has been released.. This is great news, all my FLYSKY receivers can be run from a very capable Tx, so extending their use.... on Ersky9xr, of course...

I'm not sure Ersky9x supports that protocol directly, unless the module needs PPM from the radio
I believe the multiprotocol RF module supports it..

It looks to be using a module in a standard 9X, wired in to an antenna on the top of the radio.
That suggest to me it is using PPM, and doesn't support AFHDS 2A telemetry.

If you want AFHDS 2A, you may find the 4-in-1 (or Irange) multiprotocol module a better choice.

The sounds from my 9XR Pro seem to be sorted now. But here's an odd thing... you know how blokes like to have a go and then read the manual only when it won't work? Well, with r220 and the wrong sound pack ~(older version, numbered wav files), I has happy with the way voice switches (in safety switches menu) seemed to work: set the switch (for example, ELE for flight mode 0/1) find a voice file that suited it and enter the number of that file into the config line for that safety switch and the state of the switch (ON/OFF). So easy, every time the switch gets into the selected position, it plays the file.
Now that I have corrected to the right sound pack, there are no files in the root of the VOICE dir (and none are numbered anyway) so none of my voice switches work. I will have to read the manual... But... I copied the old voice files back into the VOICE dir (so now I have the up to date voice files and dir structure and also the old files in the VOICE root. Hey.. it all works! Can I leave them there?

You could, but why not learn how to work with the voice menu? This is way better and easier than the old safety switch method, once you learn how to work with it. It is not difficult. I agree that it might be a bit of a pain to change the programming on your models if you have many.. But at the end it will be well worth it ;)
1 - you have more options
2 - before you had to program logical switches, and then program the safety switches. Now you have all of it in just one place.
Every voice alarm combines it's own logical switch and switch in one place.. You can even make it say something and then speak the value, or the other way round.. You have access to beeps, vibration, all in one menu..
You also have all the needed triggers.

Check these videos I have made a couple years ago.. they were made still for er9x, which doesn't have the named files, only numbered..

As far as I remember since this was developed a few years ago, you are the first person that says the old safety switch method was easier  ;) :)

Thanks João,
I haven't claimed that the old method is easier, just that for someone who "hacked it" on the old method, and has yet to learn the new method, it seemed intuitive..and foremost, it was a surprise that it worked at all! I will invest the time to learn and use the new method.

Eventually I may remove those voice switches, particularly as all the safety and voice switches (32 in total) may now be needed as safety switches since I extended to 32 channels.

Voice alerts may be used in the same way. Ignore any unused settings, just set a switch to use, set a trigger ON, OFF, BOTH etc., then you can select a numbered voice file although named voice files should be easier, and you get to listen to the voice file when selecting it.

Also, I've very recently added some "global" voice alerts. These are common to all models so are useful if you have something you always set on all models.
