Trim Button mod

Post by JasonK »

Has anyone done trim button mod?

1. Traditional nipple lever type.
2. Replacing rubber spring and mount tact switch.

first modeling seems ok and I think 3D printing should be done in couple of days.
mounting tact switch on trim board requires running short wire with soldering but should be no problem to anyone.

when trim models are confirmed to be Ok, I'll put up STL file as well.

Yon can solder a SMT tack switch to the PCB board , the silicone boot fits over the top of it.

I would like to move my trim switches to the back of the radio if there is space ;) Wouldn't need to let go of the controls to trim the plane. Don't know how much room there is between the gimbals and the back of the radio.

Of course, this is only good if you are a thumb flyer.. ;)

I already installed 2 momentary switches on the back of my 9x radio.. It's awesome for stuff like instatrim, timer reset, or even having the voice announcing telemetry events like altitude, battery voltage, etc..

There the little joystick on the arduino LCD 4884 shield comes to my mind.
One switch per the 4 directions and a center push switch ...

... lead me not into temptation ...

Unfortunately I don't know.
The idea came to my mind as I saw your post while such a shield lay around on my desk ... :D

Edit: here in Germany Conrad.de has some like this as long as stocks last ...

Ribbon is more than OK.
Some years ago I somewhere got a multicolored ribboncable
with 64 cores about 1m long nearly for free.
Unfortunately now it's melting away with all this mods

Maybe mount the joystick on a pole that rests on the front part of TX ...
Maybe fixed at the gimbal housings ...
Short distance to the trim PCBs...
(just some thoughts)

It would have to be somewhere I could reach with my fingers on the back of the TX..
That one from Conrad seems to be perfect for the job ;)

If possible I tend to avoid mounting things to the back cover of the PRO.
So there is no need for excessive wiring orgies and it's easier to open the radio
(unlike the 9X, where there are several connections between front and back when modded).

Therefore the idea with the pole/post (or whatever it may be called) ...
